Australian robots is the USA

Ok i was thinking about how large robotic combat is in USA and the UK and i think it would be a great idea to have an Australian robot over there competing and showing those poms what Aussie has to offer.

I know there is the cost factor to fly over there thats why i think it would be a good idea to hold a comp were the winning robot and team gets a trip to the USA to compete in battlebots or something and the trip is paid for by all the other teams. Smile

What do you think people?

I don't like it. Smile

We're trying to build interest here in Australia, not in the USA.

OK, Lets look at this,

Cost for a trip to the US for one Week

Return Flight $2000
Accommodation & Meals $2000
Transportation $ 500 This is only taxis. Hire car even more.
Entry fee $ 100 estimate
Shipping of Bot $ 200 estimate

Total $4800

And if someone went I would consider that it would only make sense in trying to line up several comp's around the US which would only increase the costs as there would be extra accommodation, flights, transports, etc.

Not to mention that the RC we use here are not compatible with the US rules. This would mean a new Radio controller.

So before long the costs would blow out to over $10,000 and this would be a cheap trip.

I believe at the moment, sending someone to the US is unrealistic. The cost I put together is very tight budget, and personally at this stage, would not be interested in assisting.
(May be at a later time, when the sport here is reconised.)

I think it is more important to help expand the sport here first.

Hello, all. Just found the forum, and I'm very pleased to fins some combat robot activity in Oz.

Brief update on robot combat in the USA: BattleBots hasn't held a tournament in 2+ years (although there are rumors of an event near the end of 2004). And unfortunately, BattleBots does not pay expenses -- but they will provide a hotel room if you make the final rounds.

Most activity here is in smaller, non-televised regional events.

Best luck with your efforts to build interest!

Mark,

On behalf of all Oz bot builders, I would like to welcome you to the forum & thank you for your update on the real situation in the USA.

I had a quick look at your website, very comprehensive. It is going to take me a while to read all the information you have on it.

Cheers,
Mytqik.

Thanks, Andrew. The Gap runs the NPC T74 motors with 4QD PRO 120 controllers. We had a little trouble with the first production run of these motors, but NPC robotics got the bugs out quickly.

I'm preparing to host an event next weekend and I'm more than a little busy, but I'll be back to have a good look around RoboWars Australia.
