That would probably depend on whether you called it a "flamethrower", or a self-propelled BBQ. Those Gas-Turbine style warehouse heaters arent illegal, and neither is remote controlling one as far as I know.
Be smart and careful and you wont have to find out. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

Just wondering if the July 23 get together is still on or if it is no longer necessary after the other day at Grantville?

I don't have anything to say. I think we learned a lot at Grantville. Does anybody still want to meet on the 23rd? _________________ David C.

Man, this post has been goin for over a year! good topic though.
I have been reading through it just now, lookingat where it started, just wanted to add, we seem to have come a long way over the last twelve months and it really looks like we are on the way to the worlds first all-terrain robot combat."Top Stuff" (quote, Russell Coight)
ps; everyone good for grantville on Aug 26

aeldric, just wondering regarding flame throwers... Is it allowed under the rules to have a non exstinguishable piolet light. eg I was considering having a small container containing a wick and some kero on the front of the flame thrower as a piolet light. this would mean that I wouldn't bne able to exstinguish it remotely. I wanted your feedback on this before I get building.

The rules do not explicitly forbid a non-extinguishable pilot light. I see why you are concerned - but I discussed it with a few scrutineer friends of mine, and they agreed that it is no more dangerous than the average racing motorcycle or car. Racing engines have numerous hot spots, which can potentialy ignite a fuel leak. Robots probably do too. A pilot light may slightly increase the risk to your robot, but it does not represent a significant increase in risk to anyone else. _________________ David C.

having a quick read through the rules the general idea is to grab an artifact that you dont know what its going to be, then defend it in your "base" for some time (is there a set time limit or do you have to immobilise the other team and get the artifact into your base?).
i like the idea of charging robots though, kinda cute in a way hehe. may have to look at converting the lightweight into something like this sometime down the track _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

You can take the artefact at any time. Even after you have destroyed all opposing forces (though a time limit applies if you do it after you have won).
The victory condition is wnning the war not capturing the artefact - The artefact simply gives you more points.
Timing depends on your strategy. It may be safer to capture the artefact early - as your small, nimble "artefact recovery vehicle" is still in one piece early on. Or your game plan may involve smashing the defences, and then sending in your slow, lumbering, "armoured recovery vehicle".
The rules are designed to encourage strategy and emergent behaviors, so they are not too prescriptive. _________________ David C.

I might be game to try this soon... How "off road" is the terrain? Any images available? Just not sure if 2wd would be possible... _________________ ( •_•)
Pyrobot uses wheelchair wheels and is only 2 WD with a caster.
I think he will work fine apart from having to avoid some deep ruts that would stop most bots.
Danny offered to grade them but I think they are best left to provide some natural pinch points and reward the bots with exceptional cross-country ability, not a lot of use making it too easy or we would be back on the cement.
Pyrobot’s center of gravity is very close to his drive wheels so he will rock backwards under positive acceleration but he is not very fast and I think this will give him a bit of character.

Nice. I was thinking of balanceing on the two wheels with a perfect center of gravity around the axle, with my weapon out front. That way it could *slowly* accelerate and maintain level quite well. Hmm now to make sure i win this auction... _________________ ( •_•)
Well there goes that idea, damn ebay sniper bids.
One thing I can't really work out is the time limit, as far as I can see there isn't one, unless all the opponents are imobile. Doesn't that mean you could just sit there till all the other bots run their batteries flat and then drive out and win? _________________ ( •_•)
