i know its way early but i was pondering over a couple of things and ill put it question form and then you can all react on each topic .....
1. is it a SERIOUS option to go 20kg lightweight for next season
a. if so ,can the arena at jeffs take it ..i believe it could easy
b. is it a true lightweight no its not ? if not call it bantamweight or what ever
c. can drill motors and gearboxes drive 20kg ,well testing that could be achieved by sticking 6 kg onto the top of your featherweight....
d. can the current IBC used here cope with the added pressure ??

As a QLDer, I don't know if my opinion is wanted.
I wouldn't want to see our numbers split into different weight categories.
Heavier robots = more money for weapons and armour. Marauder would of had 3 mm aluminium armour at 12 kg but has 5 mm armour for the 13.6 kg. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

A true lightweight is by UK standards is 25kg and 27.8??kg by the US.
4 Drill motors should cope with a 25kg load, if they are looked after. 6 would be advised.
The IBC will probably have material breakdowns running 6 drills that have been over volted to drive a lightweight. If you using the 200-300w scooter motors like George did in King Pin, you can drive it with the IBC. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

i agree with andrew at the moment to build a bot is a fair amount on the expencive side as is a LW would make it more fun but at the expence of money i think untill we get to know a bit more we could build lw's as sort of an extra untill a fair few people have one untill then run the feathers more and once we do have lw's run a comp next to for feathers so that youngsters to it all can have the same experiance we did and learn from basics becuase as it sits we get asked the same 200 questions every time some one new joins and feathers are easy for the experianced and a great stepping stone for the juniors to get to know the basics then they can step up know what i meen _________________ as a shadow is seen and not heard i am here

i would maybe build a 25 kg lightweight or 27 kg whatever but it depends really.
Im sticking with feathers for a while _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

i actially looked at a 20kg weight class not a 25 kg ...it is in reality only 6 kg heavier than what we do now ....it allows for that extra armour we need to stop spinning weapons
sadly phillip if you were to compete against our fellas with 3 mm ali armour it would not be pretty and i must say 6mm would also be useless most bots down here have gone 3mm steel plate and its not easy being forced to use that sought of material and still have active weapons ..on atrax i am using 6mm polycarb and a layer of 6mm ali over that and it would be nice to have the protection needed and still have a strong weapon _________________ Photos - http://community.webshots.com/album/154092733uokpXC

oh pine, the days of using polycarb armour with success are long gone
i would like to stay with 13.6kg for a while... i still would have preffered 12kg because cobra was way under and kang will be under 12kg (until the addition of 6mm steel all over..)
let us just stay at 13.6 for a while. 20kg will just get nick using eteks for weapon drives and me using 20mm steel armour _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

see what i mean ...how the hell can a bot have 6mm steel armour and an
active weapon ,which is a 100% must now to please the judges and crowds, and still be under 13.6 kg ...and the question may be asked ,why use steel ????, well its a lot cheaper than titanium and 6mm steel and titanium are the only materials capable of holding out spinners down ere folks _________________ Photos - http://community.webshots.com/album/154092733uokpXC

In every fight between the unstoppable and the immovable, the impossible wins..
Translated from the mystic mumbo-jumbo ?
Stop thinking conventionally.. If your opponent has built up enough energy in their weapon to demolish a wall, the answer is not to make a stronger wall.. use their own energy against them.. Judo style..
a couple of ideas off the top of my head..
Idea 1 - Build a flat lifter - Biohazard style.. reach under them and tip them over.. watch the self inflicted carnage
Idea 2 - Ablative adhesive armour. Cover your bot in something that is easy for them to get their teeth into but will hopefully stick to their teeth. Polystyrene coated with bike-tube rubber or something similair. Let them rip chunks off you. hopefully some will stick to the spinner teeth and throw them out of balance as they try to spin up again.
Idea 3 - Keep away sticks. Have an attachment made that can be bolted easily to your bot if you come up against an uber-spinner. design it to reach under their spinning blade and push against the body with more reach than their blade. Push them into the wall.. laugh.
I'm sure you can think of more with a few minutes consideration
Just because someone builds a bigger gun doesnt mean you need a bigger wall.. cleverness will win over brute strength in most cases. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

hey i understand all them ,but it its moving away from what ultimately everyone wants so called' bits of robot smashed all over the arena' isnt that what the so called fans want to see?? do we build defencive rather than offencive robots ......and still be judged on equal terms _________________ Photos - http://community.webshots.com/album/154092733uokpXC

ahh but then every robot will either be high energy or high defence no middle ground _________________ as a shadow is seen and not heard i am here

This word FANS seems to be appearing a lot, are we running a TV show here or a sporting competition???
5mm Aluminium is plenty strong to take on the best of featherweight spinners, it's how you use it, instead of going for big phat 6mm steel, if you were to angle it on a 45 degree and make it only 3mm steel, you will save weight and your spinning opponents well bounces up the angle reducing the damage.
Why does the mighty ole wedge beats spinners better then the flat walled box? _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

Well, personally I'm hoping the lightweight-no-spinners class will evolve into more interesting bots rather than the bullet-vs-armour conflict when hi energy spinners are allowed, so playing the spinner-vs-brick/wedge game in the featherweight class is fine by me..
I was just saying that just because some have built spinners doesnt mean everyone else needs to build 6mm steel bricks..
Perhaps I'm too into the intellectual side of things though, and prefer to see cleverness win out (no doubt due to egotism of thinking of myself as a clever person or something like that ) whereas most people probably would be more interested in carnage..
Besides, Arms races can be kinda fun anyway.. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people
