Ah yes, Alan Szabo Jr.. at the risk of sounding cliched, theres nothing he cant do with a helicopter... Wink

He actually seemed a bit "sleepy" in that performance compared to some of videos I've seen of him flying. Check this one out.. http://www.augustoheli.com/videostuff/videoarchive/AlanSzabo/Alan_Szabo_Sunday_at_the_Lake.zip - its one of his best.

Its about 30meg, but its worth it. In that one, its like someone just gave him a couple of Expresso coffee's ! Shocked Similair moves, just a lot faster and more frantic flying.. The cameraman cant keep up with him in a couple of spots in the video - He bounces around so wildly the camera man is like "where'd it go?" - well worth watching..

Hey, I just managed my first loop-the-loop and some side-rolls a few weeks ago with the T-Rex and it survived.. Cool another 50 years or so and I might get that good. Smile

Or, if I want to get depressed, then there's Kyle Stacey.. 11 years old (he started at 7yo), his Helicopter is bigger than he is, and hes close to Alan in skills.. http://www.kylerocks.com/

Saw this on Hack A Day
http://www.hackaday.com/2006/12/26/speedy2-r-c-speed-controller/#comments
Looks like a semi cheap rc controller for $30US and can handle upto 40amps , but forwards only.

If you added a relay to do the reversing to this (like an Electronize) controller it would be useful for robots, but the increase in complexity in electronics from a single direction 1-bridg-leg pwm controller to turn it into a full bidirectional 4-leg bridge is massive.

Unfortuantely, its not just a matter of adding a few more bits for reverse- its a whole different design, but its good to see people having a go and making their own bits like this.

I'm surprised no Big Gun comments are in this threat.

Very Happy We have another thread for that, though it's been rather quiet lately.

Value for money wise, Its hard to beat the PicooZ as a fun little chopper thats damn hard to damage (not impossible). Very Happy

Watch out for near-invisible bits of hair getting wrapped around the tail rotor shaft and slowing it down so it just spins, and be nice to the Lipo battery and dont fly it 'til it cant fly no more before charging it.

I find a small drop of superglue on the tail rotor shaft will save you from having the tail rotor fall off in a crash and then having to look for it behind the couch or wherever

Theres a whole thread over on RCGroups to do with tweaking them if youre keen.

I've been sifting through the RCGroups forums all evening trying some little mods... I've been trying to get more forward propulsion, I tried the tape air scoop, it sorta worked... Confused I've already found the hair in the tail rotor, will teach me for flying it into the cat Rolling Eyes

Currently short on run time only getting about 6-8 mins, I wonder if it's because I'm using 6 x 2500mAh NiMH in the controller? 7.2v instead of 9v? Might just make up a 12v drill pack with a 7809 regulator on it just for this Cool

Ah... This is the best shits and giggles I've had in a long time... Tomorrow I terrorist the office Razz

Next you take in the USB controlled surface-air missiles and see who can shoot it down.. Twisted Evil

http://www.thinkgeek.com/brain/whereisit.cgi?t=missile&x=0&y=0

The AirZooka is a worry though, I think that could knock the PicooZ out of the sky easily with its sensitivity to air currents. An Aircon duct is a major hazard to something that weighs about 4 grams !

Actually, I was eyeing off some of the 18" bore casing in Irrigation, was thinking about making my own chicken cannon and powering it off the work shop compressor Laughing Add a IP camera to the barrel and have fun blasting windows out of cars in the competitions carpark Cool

I'm gonna have to fly the Lolicopter in the lunch room as it's the only place with no air conditioner Razz

They're massive fun for $30 Smile

Of course, once you get used to one thing you want something better, so I bought one of these yesterday:
http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFLH1250

It seems to be pretty good, since I have managed to fly it around a bit without breaking it yet, but I'm waiting till tomorrow where I have a large office to fly it in Smile
It comes with a pretty sweet Spektrum control system, which I will have to try with another receiver for robot use!
