Marauder - Home of Stig

Marauder is a flipper. It is going through an upgrade. This version will still use 18 v Ozito drill motors and RC wheels for drive. The speedos will again be Electronize 30 A.

New items for this Marauder include a gyro, CO2, a custom ram and 5 mm aluminium armor.

One word, Respect.

This new Marauder is sweet. I don't think I could get The Aggressor though the armour on this one. And the flipper works better then I expected, then Philip said it was only on about a quarter of the power. I just hope you've figured out how to fill the gas bottles without the hoses popping. That scared the crap out of me.

Thanks.

I am going to buy a proper filling station for the CO2. I tried to get one custom made at local hose manufacturers but they wouln't do it. So it is an over priced filling station from the paintball shop for me.

The valve, that was stuck open at the park meet, is turning on and off now.

There are some more fine tuning jobs to do but they might be done in time for the House of Carnage.

Yes, Respect is someting I givet o Marauder every time I win/lose to it. When you have it tuned up Philip, we will all be in for a long haul to win. I would have to say that Marauder would be the only robot I'm actually afraid of, I'm not worried about Plan B's disc putting holes in more, or the Magmotor Basilisk which is still teething, I'm not even afraid of my old Annihilation(only scared shitless when activating it), but MArauder just brings a little fear with it each time I battle.

I've been waiting ages for you to start a thread Philip, about time mate Cool

Thanks for the responses. I thought that no-one would be overly interested otherwise I would have posted something before now.

Marauder is built in two pieces. The bottom is the control and drive while the top is weapon. The two pieces are to be held together with Velcro if it works. This should make it easy and fast to regas and change batteries between fights.

The weapon should have 26 flips in at 25 C. The gas will reduce temperature and therefore pressure as it is used and will last longer theoretically. If Marauder can flip an opponent more than once in ten seconds, it should count towards aggression if nothing else.

This is Marauder from the outside.

http://www.robowars.org/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=481

The 5 mm aluminium sides slope at 45 degrees to reduce the impact of pushers and spinners.

http://www.robowars.org/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=480

The electronics are mounted in a box on foam to reduce vibration. The addition of a gyro will, hopefully help with my driving when the arena is littered with debris. The arial is also shove inside the box which is under the aluminium.

This is the layout of the base of Marauder.

The ram and valves themselves.

The mount for the ram was quite tricky. The picture also shows the mounting point for the 20 oz CO2 bottle.

Looking good Philip! I can't wait to see this nasty going. Will it be complete for The House of Carnage battle?

I hope so. Yesterday I put threadlock onto the ram, valve and buffer tank threads. There is just a little more fiddling to get things right.

The ram gets stuck open when the flipper pushes sideways on it. I am trying to put in a bungee cord to pull in the opposite direction to the force of the flipper arm. It should be simple to fix. It just requires a bit more tweaking.

A bit of fiddling has paid off. Marauder now has a ram and bar that close properly after firing.

The base needs a little trimming to fit under the top and there is a little to be done on the wiring.

Marauder needed some parts moved about to make it all sit together. This is now done. A few wires were replaced and several other minor issues were resolved.

The velcro will not be strong enough to hold the two parts of Marauder together. Wing nuts may be the answer to hold it together strongly and still be able to get in a quick change of battery and regas.

I am worried about the arm surviving a flip but testing will answer that.

Marauder is about a 90% chance to be working for MM5.

might it be simpler to just charge the batteries in the robot and have a valve for the regas in the base plate, so you can just attach the dip tank and fill her up?

cant wait to see this thing in action someday, liquid CO2 is just sweet

You raise a good point, Glen. Unfortunately, with my drill nicads, it would be difficult to charge them in situ. I use the daggy charger that came with the drills.

It is very important that you acurately weigh the CO2 bottle when you fill it. The term "fill" is a little misleading when discusing CO2 bottles. They have 34% of their volume as liquid when full. A 20 oz bottle with 30 or 40 oz in it could get a bit stressed if the temperature goes up before you start flipping.

ah okay.

regarding the drill batteries, if your looking for a cheap nicad charger, take a look at the omni charger, 1.2-12v at around about 4 amps maximum, only $50. might work for you as well as i Smile
