well silver cobra was a retraded idea, now that its frame has been plundered for kang, its drives taken for kang and the rest is in the recent cobra,
so im taking this thread over for beta max
well as all at robowars would know we hacked up some old VCRs after they got trashed and removed some damn fine parts, noticably a beauty of an aluminium flywheel that is perfect for a spinner, along with a matching bearing block, pulley, belt and motor with matching pulley.
so its a spinner alrighty woohoo! (little sozbot one). just going to use two cheapo servos on the drive and run it off a 4.8v nimh pack that goes with the radio.
for the weapon ill just bolt some little steel teeth onto the rim of the flywheel, and use it as a disc and also ill use an rf-370 for the weapon. ill probably have to change the motor as the one out of the vcr was running fine off 14.4v, so a 3.6v motor will be appreciated _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

woohoo, clamped all the spinner mechanism which is 100% done into my vice and gave it some hardxxxcore testing.
had the motor running at 24v all through the test, and i think the ratio on the belt drive is 2:1 or there abouts. the disc is about 60mm diameter and weighs about 70g at the moment (say hello 4mm steel teeth )
the mechanism is a 3mm steel shaft, with a bearing block that has 2 bushings inside it, there is also a plastic pulley that butts up against the disc. and the disc itself is solid steel with the guts milled out so its heavier at the edge.
the mech is arranged from bottom to top as shaft/clamp collar/bearing block/pulley/disc. photos soon.
spin up on 24v (thats the rated voltage of the motor im sure of it) is wicked, its less than 3 seconds and i cant measure the speed but it sounds about 3000rpm, which aint *too* fast, but i think this motor is built for torque more than speed.
i dropped some nuts and bolts into the spoked part in the center and i couldnt slow it down noticably, even with the belt flopping all over the place. when the belt is tensioned its really hard to stop with your finder.
ive got 3 videos that i want to show yall but damn that server space shortage.
the drive i dont know about, ive got 4 perfect sozbots drives but no controller, and no servos (they cost like $30 each which almost justifies an antweight ESC...) _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

okay so ive got it mounted on a base of 10mm polycarbonate about 50x170 off the top of my head.
the drives are cybot drives mounted up the back of the frame and there is 4x 1.2v 1200mah drill cells tied up on top of the drives.
weapon has morphed today into a twin hyper dash 2 (high wang-factor name for a hotted up p9000) that i think goes 19,300rpm of a 3v battery so at 4.8v and geared down 2:1 it should spin at a hearty 10,000rpm. theres two of the motors sitting one on top of the other with both of them powering the same pulley, like upper limits (one of my fave robots now :p). turned on its side.
the weapon area has gotten a makeover too. the bearing block got mounted, and due to way to much friction between the locking collar and bearings i had to use a tiny nut to go in between the two, spins like a deam.
the pulley was wobbly as hell, because i drilled it wonky at robowars, so i drilled it out a little bigger and straighter and super glued it straight to the shaft and disk so its far more solid.
the little bushing inside the disc was half falling out, so i rigged up a little jig in my vice and used that to push the shaft and bushing all the way into the disk.
the teeth/ nay tooth are a big honking piece of steel bar, 40mm wide and about 70mm long IIRC. bolted on with two m6 bolts. it took about 2 hours of testing and bench grinding to get it to be remotely balanced, but i think i have it now.
the testing ive been doing hasnt been too hardcore because ive been using two p9000's at 12v until i can get my charger back (to charge my 4.8v packs) and its impressive, spin up is about 6-7 seconds and its hard to stall the disc with its huge tooth. its hit my kyosho table racer, thrown it about one meter and knocked the shell and batteries out of it. also took some nice chunks out of a drill battery case and hit a red wheel so hard, the weapon slowed to about 20rpm and the SLA i was using (it was resting on top) jumped off and landed flat on the disk where it shorted the leads and sparks and shit where flying off every LOL.
pics and videos tommorow, when welch and i can figure out how to work this video cam
phew big day today _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

welch came around today and we gave it a bit more testing. the spin was slow all day which we put down to the end of the motor shaft rubbing on the ground, so we propped it up and got some decent speed out of it.
the motors are only p9000s at the moment, i have to wait to get my charger back so i can charge my 4.8v packs. then ill change over to the 3v versions.
the weapon isnt too good at 12v, it doesnt have that killer blow in it, although its got respectable energy. at 24v its american antweight style, it ripped the top clear off a drill battery case and jumped it up in the air a bit when we had it on its side. welch was too much of a sissy for me to hit it really hard.
so im hoping that i can wring some high energy out of it bwuhaha.
some photos:

as it stands, all i need to do now for the mechanics is to convert the motors over, cut the front section along those two angled lines and drill the hell out of that little frame to bring the weight down. note the unfinished flame decals :p

the drives, the most perfect things about. 3 stage gears, perfect speed, power up to ying-yang, and low current. the wheels are really tractile (is that even a word ) and are pretty beefy. i might see if i can replace them with lightflights because they are very heavy.

the best part of all. the weapon. you can see the two motors all mounted, the belt drive and the weapon itself. the 4mm steel bar tooth is all bolted on, and the weapon is done at this point.
as for the motor and weapon control, looks like itll have to be a home made job, itll have to be tiny so nfi how that will work out :p suggestions welcome. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts
