Phillip, I dont doubt for a second that it is welded onto your bucket, as this would be the strongest, longest lasting & easiest method of attachment. However I would guess that the weld is along the backside of the wear plate & possible a recess edge weld. Is it welded at all along the actual portion that engages with the ground? Therefore the portion that "sees" the greatest wear will be the untouched edge, not the edge with a weld along it.

The long & the short of it, is that it is all rather academic weather it has been annealed or tempered or is in its raw state, I am sure that anyone using the product will have great success as long as they dont pour the heat into it when welding.
