are there many middleweight bots that can drive at around the 25kmph mark? _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

Gary's middle maybe.
Wait until my year 12 project is completed and there shall be one but by looks of things and weight of materials it looks like it will be far over 50 kg . _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

at the least i am going to gear down the ev 10-1 and on my 10 inch wheels which will give me 28.7kmph minus a few k's due to weight and voltage drop and all the other stuff brett mentioned.
I dont know weather i should gear it down a little more if i can to something like 15k like most bots are and have the extra power and runtime?
Btw when i get around to building this monster it will be a kickarss nar kart!!!
two evs at 24v running of two big hawkers for all the juce i kneed _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

When you put in your gearing ratio use a . between the numbers not a - for example 10.1 not 10-1 _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

generally when expressing a ratio you use :
eg
10:1
or 10/1
10.1 looks rather more like ten point one to me _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

That would explain the difference between Bretts figure and the calculators one, it was taking the ratio to be 10.1:1 when Brett did 10:1 . . . .
10:1 28.724
10.1:1 28.4
The 4QD calculator gives 28.7 when a ratio of 10 is given, and the fact that is says "What is the overall reduction gear ratio?" sort of indicates it just wants one number, it knows it will be XX:1, you cant have a reduction ratio that has the wheels spinning faster than the motor . . . . . 1:XX _________________ Jeff Ferrara

Would any one know where to get those actuator motors like king pincher and scoopydoo use? _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

They're electric car-seat actuator motors. Out of a VN commodore IIRC. Check out a commodore wrecking yard for a scruffy (unsittable on) seat.
Or for a bit more power, you can do something similair with a drill motor and parts from a car scissor-jack (thats what pinscher uses - king pin uses the seat actuators), but it involves a bit more fiddling about that way _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. So drill motors have more power then the actuator motors? _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

While I havent actually tested them I would guess so.. depends on what you mean by "power". The car seat motors are geared down a long way with a small low-current motor, so they move fairly slow, but still have a reasonable amount of force.
A drill motor moves faster, uses more power, and given equivalent gearing would probably have more power, but its hard to find a lead-screw mechanism with a fine enough pitch to slow them down that much.
Pinschers jaws probably dont have quite as much torque as the car-seats do, but they move a lot faster IIRC. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

id be running them at 24v so the drill motors might burn out actully?
And given 24v the speed might be ok mwith the actuators? _________________ Tim Team Reaper.
