As a builder of Clamp Bots my first reaction to the news that a popular motor for spinners had run out was sadness. (woohoo).

I was so disappointed for builders with destructive blades and weapons (woohoo). Feel so bad for these robots, what are they going to do (woohoo).

Am sure theres other motors out there to be used but might cost u a bit more (woohoo). Its so sad but we just have to keep our chins up and keep going (woohoo).

Just awful news (woohoo)

thanks for the info on starter motors, I'm going to give them a try for sure now... it is a relief to know they compare well against recognised combat bot motors...

someone paid $100 for a plane starter - was it gold plated Laughing ... if your local hobby shop hasn't got starters for $12 to $40 then find a different shop !!!
I still have no word on those geared starters - but I'll let you know as soon as I've got my grubby little hands on one.

thanks again guys

You might want to check out the new motor on the Oatley site. It'so new they have hardly any specs, but it's 250W and GEARED. It has 1 stage reduction and a small sprocket output so a modest chain reduction could give you a usable speed without needing a huge final sprocket. It probably runs on 24V again and is lower efficiency than the EV, but the built-in gearing is attractive, even at $79

WHen i bought all my gear for year 12 project and for nar kart from there i saw that.

One idea i had was buying that motor then buying the 8:1 or watever chain and sprocket thingy (11 bucks i think) that comes with it. The geared motor and teh further reduction through chain and sprocket will give u a powerful lifting device for anything up to lightweights i presume or a very torquey drive train.
