Adelaide Antweight Cup - 25th March 2017

February to March is Adelaide's big festival season and in this spirit, we thought we'd rebadge our March Adelaide Robot Combat meet as an actual interstate tournament!

Anyone interstate and local is welcome to come down and compete or spectate, especially if you're coming for some of Adelaide's festivals in 2017.

Time: 25th March. Rock up anytime after 3pm. We will commence the tournament at 4.30pm.
Location: The Brocas Community Centre. 111 Woodville Road, St Clair, SA 5011.
Weight Class: 150 gram Antweight. Following SPARC rulesets and we don't enforce the 4x4x4 inch UK size rule. http://sparc.tools/
Registration: Email us at a.r.c@iinet.net.au or jump onto our Facebook and message us there. Cut off 23rd of March.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/AdelaideRobotCombat/

The evening will run very similar to our usual monthly meets:
- Unlike our usual events, we would like it if everyone registered for this event by emailing us or messaging us through Facebook. Cut off: 23rd of March
- $10 to register into the tournament.
- $10 to hire of loan bot. Perfect for someone you know would like to take part but won't have a bot built.
- Spectators FREE!
- We will make a pizza order shortly after registration so bring some cash if you're keen.
- Registration/inspection period from 3 to 4pm
- Tournament will start at 4.30pm
- BYO drinks. No alcohol please.

Tournaments that will be run:
A League - Our usual league with any Antweight bot allowed to enter. This will be in a round robin format.
B League - A non-destructive league, ideally meant for beginners or people wanting to test new bots. Strictly non-destructive bots only. This will be in a round robin or single elimination format, depending on numbers.
2v2 Teams - Teams of two, last team standing wins! All Antweight bots allowed. This will be in a round robin or single elimination format, depending on numbers.

Registration:
Simply provide your name, name of your bot, weapon type, control type (R/C, Arduino, etc.) and which tournaments you wish to enter when you register.
If you wish to hire a loan bot, please mention this in your registration.
You may enter up to two bots for the night. However, you may only enter one bot per tournament. (Ie. Enter one in A League and the second in 2v2 Teams).

That looks rather posh! No promises yet, but I am definitely interested in bringing my drum spinner.

A drum spinner would be great to see! The venue is in a separate but still pretty nice building, all part of the same community center.

Your ant arena is quite tall, a drum spinner should put on an excellent show. I also have parts for a horizontal spinner; its just a bit overweight at the moment.

Looks great.

Is there a registration cutoff?

A chance I may be in Adelaide around then (or middle of no where WA).

Really wanted to make this one but the finances say a big fat no sadly.

Any NSW builders want some PC Max, Nylon or CF Filled ant frames 3D Printed? Let me know Wink

That's sad news on the lack of funds, but Hell Yeah! for some sweet nylon bot parts.

Sorry for the late post!

Adelaide Robot Combat's 2017 Antweight Cup Recap

Our first Antweight Cup was a great success!
We saw heaps of people crowding into our community center room:
- 17 Entrants in our open A League
- 4 Entrants in our restricted B League
- 6 Teams in our 2v2 Team League
- Lots of spectators and people really keen to make their own bots!

Each League had a round robin tournament.
The A league was divided up into four round robin groups and had a single elimination finals tournament at the end for the highest two scored bots in each group. (First place earned you 2 points, a loss 0 points and a draw 1 point each)

Thank you to our sponsors who provided prizes for this event:
BotBitz who provided prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in our A League Tournament. http://botbitz.com/
They were:
1st - Owen with Blade Tip
2nd - Chris with Shrapnel
3rd - Jayden with Mr Bowjangles

3DPrintergear who provided a prize for the best plastic ant of the night. Adam won with his Green Loanamo! https://www.3dprintergear.com.au/

Flinders University who provided a gift card for our Best Engineered Student Award. The winning student had to have engineered and built their own robot and have submitted an A4 poster about their robot. This was judged by the Flinder University Faculty of Science and Engineering. The winner was Jayden with Mr Bowjangles. https://www.flinders.edu.au/

We also had some other awards too:
- Best Pilot of a Loan Bot, which was won by Michael with Blue Rollcage.
- Best Novice Award (2017 being your first year), which was won by Tom with Upper Cut.
- Most Destructive Bot, which was won by Chris with Shrapnel
- Most Destructed Bot, which was won by Stephen with Rumble.

And the winners of our 2v2 Teams Tournament were:
1st - Chris and James
2nd - Jayden and Michael
3rd - Anthony and Stephen

The highlights videos can be found here:
A League - https://youtu.be/8itiMgm0Gf8
B League - https://youtu.be/InLwp-zOE-8

We finished the evening off with some fun rumble matches in our new Beetleweight arena! (open air only for now - no shield) Very Happy
