Cheapest Antweightish electronics

I am wanting to build quite a few antweightish( not for official competition) robots probably 15-20 of them and I am trying to workout the cheapest electronics setup. I'll be building a lightweight polycarb arena( again not legal size, more for portability) and have free machining. For batteries it'll just be Hobbyking Lipos but any suggestions for cheap brushed ESC( I've look at the TinyESC, anything cheaper available?) and for controllers. Would using some cheap chinese arduinos endup being cheaper than just the cheap HobbyKing TX/receivers.

For the ESC's, drive motors will probably be modded servos( I don't want speed) so not really a lot of current capacity needed

Look for MG995 360 servos on Aliexpress. They are continuous rotation servos that can run up to 7.2V, weigh 58g each and can be brought for <$10 each. So good motor, gearbox, controller option for heavy antweights. I've got a few for an idea for a school project and they seem ok.
For example:

I'm planning on using 9g servos lol, I've tested them and are happy with the performance.

My main problem is finding a cheap ESC and control method.

Because most of the robots will be used by kids/ people with small hands I am looking at this tx/r: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-5x-5ch-mini-transmitter-and-receiver-mode-2.html

I can't seem to find a programming cable for it on the website, does that mean that controls would not be changeable etc.

On the ESC front I am looking at the Tiny ESC, but they are around $25USD a piece. Robots will be ranging from wedges, to 9G servo flippers/lifters to a few bots with small brushless powered saws/discs and drills more for show then effectiveness.

Robots will be milled from 6061 Aluminium or from plastic.

Have you looked at the BotBitz escs? http://botbitz.com/product/botbitz-10amp-electronic-speed-controller/ You could also go for the B328 https://www.pololu.com/product/1220 It controls two motors at once and is small and light.

if you are using servos why do you need escs?
I mean for ones with weapons sure, but modded servos have their own driver no?

I was under the impression that modifying a servo to run continuously prevents it from being driven directly from a receiver?

That radio doesn't mention if the receiver fail-safes. Its not so important for an antweight but still good to have on a spinner.

I ran ours direct from the RX without issue? Not a very pushy bot but then I guess nothing using servos would be.
Just make sure your BEC is up to supplying the current and it should be ok as far as I'm aware.
