DMG were pretty quick for me but I get the idea their workload is variable; I might hajust got them on a quiet week. Maybe give the lovely Brea a quick call and mention the parts are for another combat bot - I said they might be getting a few extra jobs.

Question: Any recommendations on battery chargers?

(I use 6s 6000mah.)

In Hobbyking I saw some AC charger and some DC ones... What type of charging do people use in competition?

The AC chargers are mostly low powered and designed for ease of use and portability. We mostly use DC chargers with a separate switching power supply. To recharge a 6AH pack reasonably fast a charger that will do 12 amps at 22 volts is about the minimum which works out to a 250 watt model.

Check out the specs on your pack to see what its maximum charge rate is, shown as a C rating. most packs will charge at 2C (12A for your packs) and some will charge at a higher rate. If your packs are capable of faster charging, consider a 500W charger.

Update:
Good news: All ali parts are ready.
Bad news: I don't have time for heat treating the 65mn parts here in China, so I guess I will have to find a place in Sydney to do that. Any suggestions?

Also I'm a bit concerned about the possibility that the parts could deform during heat treatment. Have anyone here tried similar things before?

Good news: thick er parts seldom warp much during heat treatment. I have a heat treated S7 beater that is absolutely flat & straight.

Average news: all heat treated parts get a thin coating of oxide (scale) so tight fitting parts like shafts into bearings may need a little grinding to make them fit.

Bad news: the heat treatment places in Sydney (and probably in the rest of Australia) are useless for unusual types of steel. I once tried a local heat treater for a small S7 part and it cam back so brittle that it shattered after a couple of fights.

Which parts need hardening, I thought you were going to use wear plate like Bisalloy for the weapon?

Thx Nick.

I was going to use some sort of wear plate, however the place that offered the lowest price did not have a laser cutter, so I had to choose some sort of soft material and harden it later...

I will have to harden the weapon(16mm), the wedge/front armor(5mm), and the side armor(5mm).

What was the 'soft' steel that you got - sensing a problem here.

Also, heat treating can be expensive.

It was 65mn, a spring steel... After hardening it's ok as weapon and armor. (a bot called salted fish tried it with good results.)

The problem, as you said, is probably with finding a plant that can do the job.

EDIT: I wonder how much it cost you to heat treat your weapon... I'm thinking about heat treating in China and then send it by mail. (which is also costly, but I can at least get good heat treat.)

65MN is roughly equivalent to 1065 spring steel. The problem you are going to have with the weapon is getting it hard enough to be effective but not brittle so it shatters.

I don't recall what it cost locally, but when Whyachi had a beater heat treated it cost $110 USD for one part.
