Machining

Hi Guys Smile

I am looking to get a crank machined for a reciprocating weapon, Does anybody have any recommendations as to where I might be able to get it done?

Do you have a rough drawing of what you want?

I have a preliminary CAD design that I did in solid works. It still needs to be refined (if I can get it machined)

It has a diameter of about 100mm, kind of similar to a rotary hammer crank, but with a larger stroke (about 70mm).

I can PM it to you, but it's an old version. If I can get it machined, I will finalise the design. But I would probably be needing a 5 axis router for this job?

Laughing Anyone with a 5 axis mill is going to price gouge you! The easier way to do it is to make it in separate parts and assemble them later. The parts could be pressed, welded or pinned together, depending on the material and sizes and that will make fabrication WAY easier.

Refining a 5 axis machined part after it's been machined?

Expensive way of building something.

On the other hand, as Nick writes.
Give us details ,and we can give decent advice.

And yes, if your design is good, it will be copied... I myself find it a great compliment.

Gravity 3 inspired a lot of people...

You can machine cranks on a lathe using a 4 jaw chuck easily enough.
