I always hold the rod when stick welding - especially when it's new and way too long to keep steady from the handle.

I also often to the "back step" technique with TIG when welding a long seam or around the edge of a tube.

Always wanted one of those organisers, but not for $72 shipping. Might have to just rip off the design and DIY it xD

The TIG fingers arrived today, already liking mine Very Happy.

For the locals, I can either post them out or you can pick them up from Glen's place after Sunday arvo.

Brett: can you please PM me your shipping address so I can mail your finger?

Got my welding table parts yesterday.

I have the sleight impression I overdid it.

8mm sheet metal, total weight of the top is 168kg.

Mario's table is fabricated like those Slot & Tab tables I linked to. It will be 20 cm thick once it is assembled.

Started tapping the M10 holes of the top plate. Only 80 to do.

I just found out I don't have any large enough "small" clamps to do the job. So the first thing when the shop opens is to buy 6 clamps of a suitable size.

I am very keen to see the finished table! Can you not use the bolt together method used in the video you sent me? IMHO you don't need steel plates on the bottom for clamping, 90 x 45 wood is fine as the plates on the bottom are only use to draw the top & sides together. Photos please!

The first action pics are taken by my lovely wife. So, yes, a build report will appear on photobucket.

On the bolt setup. The biggest threaded rod I can use is M8, not 1/2" UNC. A big difference in clamping force. And using a few meters of threaded rod, nah.

I just plan to use the clamps later on as special tools added to the welding table.
