Antweights - Slightly Evil Robotics - SA

The Force - lifter
For our first non-kit antweight my son got to pick a design, and he decided he wanted to build a "mini-Biteforce". It's 90% done and is now at the point of being drivable.

It doesn't quite all fit yet, I need to order a smaller receiver as I misjudged it's height with stuff plugged in. There's supposed to be a servo up front with a lifting arm attached (which is most of the remaining 10%).

It's underweight! Unfortunately the servo/lifting arm will weigh around 15g ... I'm hoping with the smaller receiver and a few other alterations it'll (maybe) scrape under the 150g.

Next to our Botbitz kitbot. I was still messing with the mixing when my son went to bed, tomorrow we'll hopefully be able to test them in combat for the first time.

Here's my 7yo son trying out his bot (newly christened "The Force") against our kitbot (with expert commentary from my 3yo son). It's still missing it's lifting arm but it works quite well as a horizontal thwack-bot.

Picobyte - full body spinner
My other work-in-progress antweight. I'm still trying to work out several aspects to the design, not least how it'll all fit under the mixing bowls I found for the shell.

You can reduce volume and weight by removing the case from the Rx, cutting the wires to length and soldering the wires directly to the board. Remove as many plugs as possible and solder the motor wires to the esc.

Heh. My 3yo was put out that I wasn't building him a robot yet, I asked him what sort he would like if I did ... "Tombstone" ...

Thanks, they're good suggestions. If I need to I'll likely remove the receiver case and shorten the wires, but I'm reluctant to go away from the plugs because I like the interchangeability in case something breaks (plus I don't entirely trust my soldering skills again yet, still a bit rusty). Still an option though if I need to.

heh nice
looks like sparkles

we used the micro rx from hobbyking,
used foam for the body in sparkles.
for baby bowler we used PCB material for the base, then cassie just electrical taped the servos onto the PCB for the drive.

Hey Steve, Chris here.
Just curious, how are your bots going with fitting in the 4"x4"x4" box? They appear pretty large, or that might just be the pictures. Haha

Hi Chris. Didn't think the 4"/10cm cube thing was used is Australia, just in the UK.

The Force is just under 4.5" in length (not including the lifting arm, which raises to 90 deg anyway) but would easily fit in the other dimensions. The bowls I bought for Picobyte are just under 4" in diameter.

That's correct, we never bothered with the size rule - just fitting into the weight limit is enough of a challenge!
