Unnamed beetleweight - Slightly Evil Robotics - SA
As what initially started as a chance to mess around with bits I had seems to be turning into an actual bot, I thought I'd better start a build thread. I'm seeing this more as an opportunity to learn what does and (more likely) doesn't work, especially with how bodged together this bot already is.
What I've made so far:
Bit's I've already screwed together:
My homemade green wheels. As weight is already looking to be an issue I've added some "speed holes" to lighten them a bit. Lesson number one: I need a drill press.
The wedge pieces and their supports, one with the lifter motor mounted. Lesson number two: I'm terrible at cutting straight lines with the jigsaw.
All the bits held in place with bluetack. Looking at it like this I've already decided that the wedge pieces need to go in front of the supports rather than flush with them, for more strength, It would also fix the problem of not enough space for the lifting arm caused by my poor build tolerances.
Already heavier than I'd like, especially with all the bits it still needs:
