Thanks for the advice guys! I had the afternoon off and I found a plastics shop nearby so I dropped in, they sell 3mm polycarbonate for less than $140 a sheet and will cut it to size for free if we're getting multiple sheets.

Sweet! Can you please give me the details so I can make an order for my ant weights arena so we can get spinners safely going sooner?

James, is 1.7m the size of the arena itself, the size of outside the walls, or the size of the shelf around? And what are the other values? Sorry to be a pain, but then I can work out the polycarbonate piece sizes.

1.7m is the arena size. still have to do stuff to the shelf to make it attach so not 100% sure on that yet. at the moment its 75ish, and the exact inside is 1.68m. one side will be higher than the others. should have it almost done by end of tomorrow.

So the polycarbonate sheets will need to be at least 1.7 and no more than 1.75 a side? That's going to be an awkward size to surround. I was thinking two 1.22x0.8 panels a side so they could fit in my boot, which I guess we could still do with 10cm strips of wood/metal dividing each one. The other option would be getting two 2.44x1.83 panels each cut in half (if picked up with a trailer/ute) or quarters (if going in my car) that then get trimmed to 1.7/0.85 width.

I wouldn't hurry in to it. Considering how expensive a sheet is.
I have only finished one half of the arena so far. (excluding the fine touches)
Few more weekends and it will be complete. (well able to be used)

Steve, could I still get the details for the sheets from you? I still need to buy some sheets as soon as possible to protect the ant weight arena. Especially since I want to build a spinning blade antweight next. :/

Sorry Chris, I tried sending you a PM but as it's sitting in my "Outbox" rather than my "Sentbox" it seems to not have actually gone through.
The place I found the polycarbonate is Kinda Plastics at 3/1445 Main North Road Para Hills West (in the same shop as Infinity Signs), the guy I spoke to there (Corey Armstrong according to his business card) quoted $120 + GST (so $132) per 2.44x1.22 sheet of 3mm. He said they'd be happy to cut the sheets for us for free if we were buying multiple whole sheets - you'd probably want two cut in half for your arena.
I've said to James that I'll buy the polycarbonate for the larger ant/beetle arena he's making, given what the two of you have already made/bought I figure that's fair. I'm waiting on him to work out the final size though so I know what to buy.

hey guys happy to donate some 3mm polycarbonate sheeting if it's still required.
They're smaller sheets (900*1.2 IIRC) but I can give you enough for your arena if you're able to transport it from sydney by any chance.

Appreciate the offer, I guess it really depends if anyone is likely to be going to Sydney. We'll chat about it this week.

Yeah, definitely another fun night, even if I now have 3 broken bots to fix Thanks Chris for hosting again.
I completely forgot to bring up Thomas's offer of polycarbonate, but we're looking to have an enclosed arena soon, so we'll just buy locally.
