Can you get screen grabs from this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9JNXQcGcnM . I have heaps of photos from the UK event but they are all from the pit area, not actual battles. I also have plenty of photos from the last two Nationals events.

I can definitely help with lights, just give me a bit more info on what you are going to be pointing the lights at (ceiling walls, the crowd etc) and if you want them to be coloured, programmable or just 'dumb'.

If you just want some static colour washes, it might be cheapest to buy some cheap 20 watt LED flood lights and colour gels. If you want something a bit fancier, you can hire intelligent LED colour mixing lights that look something like this:

I can hook those up to my lighting controller and program a lightshow with them.

We need to think about how to mount the lights: good venues will have 2" light bars mounted in the ceiling - we need to find out from Vivid if that's the case. To hang lights, they need to come with a standard light hook and a safety chain. They should also come with a power cord and we will need a DMX cable for each light.

Hi Nick,
at the moment I am hoping to get some ground mounted lights (dumb) to aim at the silver ceiling ducts.
A hazer (programable) and maybe some lazers and colour wash lights.
but at the moment the venue doesnt have any rigging, as its usually a cargo hold. so we will need to hire anything we need and the budget is pretty tight atm.

I have a smoke machine that may be big enough to cover the arena - it can be turned into a hazer just by placing a fan in front of it. Will need to check if I have any fog juice left for it.

Rigging for overhead lights can get expensive - you can get winch-up light stands (which take lots of floor space and are easy to trip on) or the more expensive truss lighting, which looks very professional but takes a while to assemble. I may still have two winch-up stands, will have to check.

BTW: If you get any lasers, make sure they have a preprogrammed or demo display - lasers are notoriously difficult to program and I doubt that I can set up a good show with them in the time we have to set up. Also ask the hire people if the lasers can run continuously; some higher powered units will overheat if they are on for more than a few minutes at a time

That place looks OK for price, perhaps a bit limited on the range of lights. Are you just getting lighting for the event, or other gear as well?

That sounds like a good deal then. Speaking of cables, do you know what the power situation is at the venue? If we are lucky, they will have plenty of 10A domestic power outlets, but many venues have 20A (or higher) industrial outlets and need power distribution boxes. Another thing to find out is where the circuit breakers are in case we trip one.

Looking at the venue pack, those light stands are light weight - unless you can put them well out of the way, I would try to get some sand bags to prevent them getting knocked over. Perhaps they just don't show them but stands usually come with a bar across the top that the lights hang off, best to ask.
