Job tracking software that people will use / doesn't suck

IT peeps...!

We're using a terribad google docs spreadsheet at the moment to 'track' jobs and no one uses it properly + its a nightmare to find jobs, update and we cant get any insights from it.

I've been looking for something that walks the employee through in babysteps in entering a new job into the system, but allows detailed 'revisions' to be entered and also, lets us track stuff eg how many of this type of job did we do in Jan.

Does such a beast exist? Think google forms as a way to enter the data with a mix of date, number and dropdown fields - entered into a spreadsheet style format but then the ability to double click on the entered job and drill in to see and add more details / changes. Some kind of warning when jobs drift towards the entered due date would be awesome.

Free would be nice, but will pay - keeping in mind its for like, 3 employees to use. Laughing I've got no idea what I'm doing. Rolling Eyes

We use TrackIT to manage our IT Help Desk at work.

It's alright, nothing super special, but at the same time, it does a decent enough job.
