There would not be much meat left but it would be better than nothing. alternativly, I have M5 that are too long, maybe I can cut them down to size tomorrow.

Individual parts work on the bench and bot is mostly together.

Should be a great event in a few hours. Nice work to all the organisers so far.

Still alive.

For those who didn't know. We had approximately 1500 people through in the first session. And over 10,000 in the second session.

Was pretty chaotic. I think I have been better organised at the nationals. But all in all reasonably happy with the day. Thanks to Angus, Stacey and Megan for running the fights and Judging. It made things much easier. Thanks to my parents who go the shit job of manning the front desk with no idea what was really going on. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets while there is no way this event was profitable. It will reduce the amount of cash which myself and parents "donated" to the event.

Thanks to all the early Pozible supporters especially those outside the community. If the campaign was not funded this would have been off long ago.

Righto now don't think I can do anymore events but we will see what the feedback is.

I will say I really liked the evening session format. Maybe not as long as we did. Should really have been two day comp as it was originally meant to be. But I reckon a 6pm - 9/10pm time would be idea.

Great work to all the organisers. Was a fun day, Sorry for anyone if I was walking around a litlte like a zombie (and dropping my drills a lot).

Congratulations Jules, Queen of the Sportsman until we have another comp.

All in all, the event came off very successfully. Big croud, very few cancled fights. Set-up, pull down etc were to schedual. We recoevered the lost time between fights.

I love the trailer, makes set-up and pack up easy as you can get to what you need without taking half or almost all the stuff out and everything just slides in. Great job Steve's faimly. I think the trailer was a large part as to why we were able to get setup done as per the schedual and not a last minute rush a few minutes before cowds arrive.

A one day is a large amount of work but it was manageable for sportsman. With exception of a few like trailor dirvers if we do such an event again I think we should try to two crews to help slit the workload and time on site with some overlap as required or people willing.

BTW, brain was a failure yesterday, Who do I owe money for my lunch?

good event!

The fights were generally quite entertaining and the crowd certainly wasn't disappointed. There were a lot of people who came along with a distant memory of the TV show, and as soon as the fights started the comments were all along the lines of "that is so cool!" and "that was awesome!"

A lot of people stayed for the whole evening, which is a good sign in the middle of a festival type event.

I wish I'd ended up with the time to build a robot for this one - but ended up ridiculously flat out with another Vivid project!

My only suggestions / complaints would be:

More arena lighting needed. The moving lights were great - but there needed to be some more static white light in the arena. Often reflections on the outside were stronger than the view from inside and with dark coloured bots they tended to disappear sometimes.

PA system setup was awful. The quality of the gear was fine, but if you're going to cover a large area you need to use more speakers, or there needs to be more distance from them to the front of the audience.
We were in the corner next to a speaker for a while and most people had their fingers in their ears for a lot of it. It was beyond the pain threshold and definitely in danger of causing permanent hearing damage to the kids there.
The music was often ridiculously loud and drowning out the commentary, and there were a lot of glitches / general dodgyness.
Up the back the commentary was largely unintelligible.

I was also worried about the low arena lighting - we could have used another two of those LED panels. Having the speakers at head hight in the pits wasn't such a brilliant idea. If they are still at Jeff's place, I have a pair of heavy duty winch-up stands that will hoist speakers & lights up a about 4 metres and I also have a pair of speakers about the same size as the DJ's.

Between Steve's fantastic arena trailer and my lights, we have quite a solid touring rig that sets up quite quickly when we have enough builders on hand. Very Happy

yeah if you can replicate that setup reasonably easily I think it's a sellable "show"

For the PA I would either use 6+ smaller speakers on top of the arena pointing out in all directions, or use larger speakers further away and higher up.

If the distance from speaker to the back of the audience is less than double the distance of speaker to the front of the audience I think it would be ok - but you'd need more overall power.

I have all the sound gear to do that sort of setup if it was required.

Another 2 or even 4 of those LED panels would have been great for the arena lighting.

Agree with both of those.

Speakers were meant to be out of the pits but due to cabling didn't end up like that.

I thought we had 4x LED panels we only had two going at the end. Should be able to get a few more of something similar from China and I think we would be fine.

Other real issue is needing more viewing area but short of bigger arena not sure what we can do there.
