PLA has no place being in Perth, the models literally melt in your car. Rolling Eyes UP Box has been pushed back to end of April. If we're lucky. >_>

haven't tried pla yet….in-fact i haven't been game to try anything else other than cheap abs ….here is some other printed action from the film we worked on….these guys are 120mm wide printed with the largest hollow size and they had to be radio controlled to fluctuate the light inside it….the crew couldn't believe the dolls and these "devices" was printed

I think the main factor is the printer's resolution and build quality, rather than the type of plastic.

Forget about filament printers, I just found the ultimate roboteer's 3D printer:

Currently printing at 100um on the UP! Mini, confirmed works. Here's what I'm using:

Layer Thickness 0.1
Scan Speed 14 (really slow but nice)
Scan Scale 0.5
Support Scale 0.45
Hatch Scale 0.525

Everything else default.

How does the temperature controls go?
I had a quick skim and noticed there was options were several options for temps based on the layers it was printing.

It works like the normal UP software but you can spec them - basically it heats the plastic more for first layer for a better bond, slightly less for 2nd and then constant for 3+ layer. I only use legit filament at home, but will trial the cheap stuff at work tomorrow. Smile
