Is a 180mm angle grinder disc a saw blade for the purposes of the commandments bestowed upon us above or is that a weird blade that I found as described in commandment 6?

Also adding to the "probably obvious but want to be sure" questions, I have a couple about multi-bots in sportsman:

-> I can't see it clearly laid out in the SPARC rules but I presume that all bots within a multi-bot require an active weapon each (while obviously also adhering to the "no wedge" rule).

-> From the SPARC match rules:

quote:
In the case of multi-bots, the countdown will begin when greater than 75% of the mass of the multi-bot is unable to move. For multi-bots with an even number of robots (2, 4, etc...) and equal weights for each portion the team will identify which are considered to be the heaviest.

Does this mean that for two bots with roughly equal weight both need to be knocked out (>75%) or that it's over if the designated "heavier" robot is knocked out?

Thats fine Nick. Your spatula pleases my non wedge desires.

Angle grinder discs != saw and have a tendency to explode if they get damaged. Sparks look cool however so yes providing
- No thin cutting discs
- < 3000rpm (think angle grinder is about 8000rpm so should keep it in less explody range)
- No drop saw blades. Lets not escalate this.

Multi-bots
- Unless you can make a compelling argument for one not having an active weapon (e.g. This half of the robot is the weapon as the other half launches it at the opponent) then yes both need weapons.
- ^^^^ someone should make that
- If you had 2 of equal weight countdown would begin if both were knocked out. However I would say you would be unlikely to ever win on judges decision if one of them is dead.

Only problem I foresee is that, with such a heavy saw blade, you're not leaving much weight to build your flamethrower.

I would like to make that. But would the launchee need to be on an 8' tether per rule 15.1.1?

Just a few questions.

Will the floor of the Vivid Arena be reasonably flat? Just figuring out the amount of ground clearance I need.

Also what material/thickness is the floor? Working on a hammer bot at the moment and don't want to end up damaging it.

I think the floor is two layers of 16 mm MDF. The floor starts flat but don't count on a flat floor for the finish of the event. Ground clearance is your friend.

Explicitly prohibited in the rules are:
"EMF fields from permanent or electro-magnets that affect another
robot’s electronics."

I interpret that to mean I can use a massive electromagnet big enough to pick up another (ferrous) robot as long as I drive the electromagnet with DC. Doing so should mean that it can't reasonably be expected to affect another robot's electronics.

Sound like a reasonable interpretation? Clearly the spirit of the rule is to avoid bots designed to "magically disable" other bots.

My name's Richard (hello, pleased to meet you) not Glenn, but I'm still going to take that as a massive complement Maddox, firstly because the crazier and more hare-brained the better in my view and secondly because you mistook me for Glen, who I understand is one of the chief robot whisperers round here.

I was browsing around EBay this morning and came across this, which I thought could probably be used to nefarious purposes at some point, especially if you put, like, 8 of them on a lifter:
