In this thread, http://robowars.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1832 we were talking about robots that could be run without an arena. It was to use a hybrid of sportsman and open feather rules. What do we want now? I want to know whether to build another clamper lifter or a lifter with nothing sticking out for fighting spinners.

I would like to know how a spinning 125mm grinding disc fits into the rules for sportsman class.
Firstly if it is allowed
Secondly if it is allowed , is it restricted to 400rpm as it's main function is cutting
I have read the rules but still not 100% sure how this setup fits in with the rules and the spirit of the rules.
Thanks

Can removable links be located beneath a lifting arm or does it need its own opening?

Removable links need to be out of the path of any weapon.

Imagine to try to delink a machine with the weapon on the fritz?

Good point.

I was thinking of a hinged flap with a magnetic latch to keep it shut. Is that a good idea or is there a better way?

I had the stub of a cable tie around the wire loop of the link, that sandwiched between the lid of the robot and the link door. It was surprisingly effective!

Are we going with the SPARC sportsman rule that allows shufflers at 20.4 (45 lbs)? I am completely hypnotised by the Strandbeest mechanism and would seriously try to make one if there was an extra 6.8 Kg to play with.

Now with sportsmans coming up lets all remember:
- Thou shalt not wedge or spatula greater than 1/4 of robot width
- Thou shalt not use wedges or spatulas that aren't an integral part of the weapon
- Thou shalt not use sides < 1 inch not perpendicular to the floor.
- Thou shalt not spin things faster than 400rpm - except for saw blades
- Thou Saw blades shall not be modified
- Thou shalt not claim some weird blade you found that may or may not be for a saw as a saw
- Thou shalt not have a saw blade greater than 254mm or 10".

- Thou shall ASK BEFORE EVENT if unsure
- Pls dont ask again if you can have a flame thrower this reduces my will to live.

With the spatula bit, my T shaped flipper has a spatula across 100% of the front, but its only about 23% of the bot's total width at the back. Just checking - I hope this dumb question doesn't reduce your will to live.
