Go to pick and pay less, get as many car bonnets as possible and cut strips out of them and make the arena walls with them. If they get damaged, you just flatten them back out and run a bead of weld over it.

Fairly cheap and extremely easy to fix up Smile

i can help in two weeks time from wednesday onwards (damn end of term exams.)

well the arena wall at this moment really needs to be bolted on instead of screwed on at the joins for one, and painted again.

but if its a total replacement well then all i can think of within reason is sleepers and besablocks

I still like the idea of concrete filled besablocks, at least for the bottom impact taking layer. Strong and cheap. Only problem I can see holding them down Unless you use a hole stack of steel bars and bolts to hold them together, theres no real way of doing it without drilling into the floor.

Ill be avalible to help after exams too, bastards they are . . .

With the Bessablocks, you can cast connectors into the central holes as you fill them with concrete. the simplest ones I can think of would be steel rod bent into a 4" wide U shape. Two of those are cast into each block so a wood 2x4 just fits under. In use, we slide a long 2x4 through all the anchors and secure the wood to the end blocks to lock everything together. Alternatively, we could insert dyanabolts after the concrete filler has set.

Why fill the blocks with concrete? I (accidentally) dropped some Besserblocks off the roof recently the empty ones shettered into dust while the filled one just chipped the edge it landed on, despite weighing around 3 times more.

they will chip and put large chunks of crap all over the arena if a spinner hits them, this would be a *bad thing* tm i think.
perhaps use them as backing for some form ply or some such?
or garden sleepers they should be fairly cheap and easy to put in and when we get around to pulling this wall down we could replace them with hardwood

For sure we would need to put a wood facing on the besserblocks - silly of me to forget. Sleepers woeld be an OK and lighter solution, I think they are more expensive than they look. Are they not hardwood already? Even with the sleepers, as facing might be good to help eliminate the gap at the bottom.

Yeah, bolt on some stubby Thunderbird 2 wings and you'll make it out to the street Smile

I will be taking a day or two off before the next event, so I can pick up material from Chris and cart it over to Jeff's place.
