To those asking about parking. I think you just made parking at the venue a higher level funding in the crowdfunding rewards.

Had a browse on pozible to find ideas for the reward tiers... ohgod so much fail. Shocked Last year's is still only one page back in successful event projects.

Other than the obvious participation in the comp, any other ideas? I'm keen to do workshops, tshirts.. stickers posters DVD if enough interest . Smile

I'm planning a short 'how to build a combat robot' youtube series with up-to-date Australian component sources and techniques. This'll coincide with the pozible event as regular weekly updates.

Rough plan:

Episode 1:

Introduce what we've been doing and the core components for a featherweight (Kmart drills, tz85s, hobbyking tx/rx and battery). Plan is to enlist my sister's help with her nex-7 for soft focus pretty-ness.

Episode 2:

Drill modding - grubscrew method and i'm thinking template for the thick MDF or UHMW mounts. I'll upload a print and cut template for these. Redwheels.

Episode 3:

Basics of wiring and getting the parts down on a thin plywood board to make a first moving platform. Continued and finished in Episode 4.

Episode 4:
Finished moving platform and quick demo of different construction methods (welding, screws etc) and materials. This should be enough to get interested parties started and on their way and will coincide with the conclusion of the pozible campaign.

Any help is welcomed, but don't offer if you're not intending to follow through! Laughing

Also wondering if anyone is able to knock up a quick banner / catchy event name? Lack any image editing software on my lappy since its win 8 infection... Laughing Robot Serial Killers or Robowars Sydney 2013 work but open to ideas! Smile

I can volunteer some time and equipment - I have a good HD camera & tripod as well as video editing experience and a background in commercial TV.

Back to building the bots. I can't recall seeing any Sportsman bots before, so what are the usual materials used in the frame construction? What's thick enough armour without going overboard?

I think 5mm Ali is pretty standard for construction.

Yep ali, UHMW it seems mostly anything goes as you're less focused on having to deal with damage.

Jaemus has designed an AMAZING poster which I've stuck up on the first post, and will make a facebook event page with later. Very Happy Thanks dude!

Do you still have the base plate for subliminal Nick? Might be suitable for the POP you've arranged! Smile

Would someone be kind enough to link up the rules to the Sportsman class? I've googled it and found some sketchy info that I'm uncertain about

NVM They're on the first post apparently, my bad

http://www.nerc.us/rules.html halfway down, although i could have sworn there was a rule banning 'exotic' materials. Maybe that was only initially. Smile
