I have been getting a few quotes from polycarb places past few days and lots of them cur to size.

I was wondering if it would be possible to make like an interlocking design which you get cut. I am sure they could do it.

Angus get cadding.

Just wondering if anyone is interested in Ants .

I am not really myself but I do have most of the aluminum extrusion to build the frame of an arena similar to the one Glen mentioned in this thread.

I noticed we have a couple of new vic builders to so I thought this might be a good time to do a roll call and see if anyone else is lurking about.

The ant arena would need to find a home in Melbourne.

Someone would need to organize the polycarb.

Hey alll, just wanted to say hello hope you are all well, Caught up with some of you on the weekend and suggested a possible gathering soon at my place. Thinking early next month maybe. Have a slab of concrete in the backyard waiting for a shed so an area for some driving is possible, Feel free to comment below

Good stuff George. The Brisbane competition is the second weekend of Oct 10-11th so that means is you might get to watch a live podcast if they do that now and see Gary and myself fighting up there.

Just wondering what is the minimum size an arena could be for regular competition, about to build a shed but it could be an arena/shed, the area is 5.2 x 3 meters which is probably too small so thought to get some thought on this.
Have up-loaded a pic of the area to my album pics if someone can link please[/img]

We regularly use the arena in 3.6 x 3.6 format. I would say its maybe a little cosy but everyones opinion has been that its adequate.

3x4 maybe with an internal wall so your not standing outside the shed would be acceptable. Bit small but for a local non-public comp I reckon it would be good enough.

I think it would be cosy but would be good for backyard sportmen without full pressure pnumatics.

I know I have had bots before that are 1m+ long (and I suspect some of Gary's get near this length) as some examples in Vic that may be a tad too cosy but people can just design around that.

Thanks for your comments. Some good ideas.
Have decided to do this legit with a building permit so that means can get a bigger shed and add some cement so am looking for a shed ideally around 4.5 x 5.5 meters and build within that.
Gary and anyone else if you are out there get in touch, wondering if you would like to be involved in making this.

We haven’t set a date for the get together at your place yet as far as I know. If its next weekend sometime I can be there and we can work out a few things.
Happy to help.

Might think this an odd thread to resurrect but the back yard ideas kicked around are relevant to whats bubbling around in my head at the moment.
The octagonal Sidetracked arena was conceived to allow maximum spectator viewing area in an open area. It is also efficient for fighting area and the elimination of tight corners. Gives it a bit of a thunderdome effect.
Problem is its outdated for open feathers, takes up a lot of space and has massively more viewing area than required for a Giant Robo Battelshed style arena.
I dont wont to burn any bridges with the mobile octagon in case an opportunity comes up to do a public event.
So using 2 or perhaps doubling up for safety and using 4 panels for the viewing wall and building the rest of the containment out of a couple of truck trays, heavy I beams and whatever else is available I might get it to a standard that could withstand the current crop of feathers.
Size probably 16ftx16ft elevated surface so a pit or effects possible edge rail tough enough for lightweights.
Another part of the plan is a rough enough 6ftx4ft box using some of the old pollycarb for Ant and Beetle battles.
