Thanks Phil and Steve. They are both ballpark figures showing an approximate size.

Nothing wrong with overstating length.

I would measure the space in the back of my car so that I wouldn't have to disassemble the arena after each event.

That looks like a good size. Storage will be no problem for me (parents won't mind as I have practically turned the garage into a workshop so it's basically my space haha) but yeah we have an old table tennis table I wanna throw out so it looks like it would go in that spot too easy!

Could I ask for build/completed pics of the ant arenas in NSW and QLD?
And also a component list to keep costs down now that you know exactly how little you need?

Tools I have to work with:
-angle grinder
-dremel
-arc welder
-jigsaw (partially broken so takes some skill to cut straight)
but my mate who I work on cars regularly with has a multitude of woodworking tools so things like a drill press, air tools, circular saw and a good jigsaw are attainable, I also have a few mates who would gladly help me construct it.

Time permitting I'll see if I can get an arena going within a month or 2 and then on, I shall start with the antweights Razz
Cheers guys.

Tools needed for QRSC arena were drill and hacksaw, and maybe a jigsaw.

I will try and find the PDF for the cutting of the polycarb sheet.

I have a drill press and a few other things if needed. Based on what I remember of the QLD one, like Steve said, not many tools are required and it is a nice and simple bunnings run as an option to source all the parts.

I will try and monitor the forum during the week days to see how much this will cost.

Hey guys,
Hate to sound impatient, but any luck on finding the info on the ant arenas?
Cheers

You can use one of the offcuts and one of the other sections for the roof. Might be worth changing the cuts a bit so you have the exact size for the roof as well. I think Daniel had to use the jigsaw.

Haven't read all the topic but if you want to make a super easy ant arena check out the aluminium extrusions with joiners you can buy at most metal supply places.

It's like aluminium box section but you hammer in right angle and corner joiners so you can make boxes and such without bolts. They seem to work awesome.

That's exactly what the QLD ant arena is made out of.

What a damn good idea.
What would be my best bet for sources of polycarb?

http://www.crazydealsonline.com.au/QUBELOK.html

Got any pictures of that arena Aaron?
Cheers

Went to bunnings the other day and found their stash of qubelok parts + ali. Also found 3mm clear PVC sheets;
-600mm x 900mm $40
-600mm x 1200mm $55

so judging by what I saw, from just that resource an ant arena could be made for no more than $300 I believe.

How could you make yours so cheap Nick?

Sheet of 3mm polycarb was like $230 cut. And is way better than PVC not that it will really matter till you get scarlets.

That price does not sound too bad. I am still willing to fund it.
Wonder if a plastic supplier would do a better or worse deal gien the small size required for the arena.

Although a QLD store, this website has a few sizes and the price is not too bad so something like this may also exist in Melbourne although a lot of the more convenient sizes are around 4.5mm not the 3mm used in ant arenas.
