Who's left in vic?

Curious as to who's left in vic that still goes on here.
Emailed Mark at sidetracked requesting the status of the arena (if they even still have it) and figure if no-one in vic is into robowars then I'll start considering interstate trips as I have just been bitten by the robowars bug again after what like 2 years? Uni, girls and cars take up so much time that I had none left for combat robots!
Seeing as hurricanes still sitting here 95% fight ready I may as well use it Razz
Also with a much better equipped 'workshop' I have been developing while working on cars, my standard of robots and fabrication should be much better now so I can get hurricane up to scratch to take on the heavy hitting spinners (and settle a score with badger Wink).

Even if there are only beginners in vic that's alright, the more the better!

Seems like you'll mostly have to start from scratch Sad

Yeah of course we could have an fbs battle haha
Judging by Sean's fb page looks like he may well be back!

I'll wait for info on the arena but I'm afraid it looks as though the vic scene may have to start from scratch Sad

Look its really not that bad. I would suggest getting some ants or beetles going and getting your own arena as it is just easier and starts something moving.

Then save the feathers for interstate for the moment.

I think the first ant arena cost me as much to build as my first ant. So either the arena was cheap or my ant was expensive

mmm I like the sound of beetleweights, always wanted to build one but would never have had an opponent.
If I did happen to make a beetle arena, what kind of walls would be needed? I would just use a flat concrete area and have it as the floor.

Also I'm going to need to be filled in on the technological enhancements of the past 2 years, I know that stuff develops quickly haha. I'm assuming a123's aren't commonly used and botbitz is where everyone buys their drive esc's and ant/beetle parts?

Yep Steve Aaron's botbitz escs are epic....

You dont even need walls for your beetle arena if you don't have spinners.

We still use a123s for feathers...but no one else seams to anymore. lipos are cheap and powerfull you just cant short them at all.

Not yet. Back to Vic for work in nine days.

Botbitz good for small motors and for all ESCs.

I still run A123 for feathers but I have not done much in two years.

Will be interstate in building some things when I am back in Vic as I will have some tools again. Probably can't get back into building till late feb/ early march due to moving states and new work location.

Ah no rush Sean, if I get time between uni work I might try and slap together a pneumatic flipper with servo drives, only because I already have the parts haha. Would love to build a spinner in the near future though as always Razz

Got a reply from Mark at Sidetracked;
"Hi Luke
We still have the arena and have no plans to start up Robowars again.
Regards"

Well at least it still exists Rolling Eyes
If we ever got enough people together I could see it worthwhile in renting/borrowing the arena for events or just simply buying it if they just don't want it. Sounds like it's just taking up unwanted space there.

^reminiscing vids like these, I realize that 9 of the 11 robots there are victorian... such a shame they can all disappear so quickly.

At the moment it looks like I'll be preparing for interstate trips in the near future! What are event schedules like in Qld and NSW?

Yeah looks like they had some epic events back in the day. Before I even knew robowars existed.

Sidetracked were selling their arena and asking for offers ...they had a post on the forum about it last year....I guess no one bought it.

Hopefully there will be a couple of public events in QLD. including the nationals latter in the year....It was great fun last year. Very Happy

With the power of modern vertical spinners the sidetracked arena isn't really safe enough any more, even during the last event a few years ago it was a bit sketchy. Get your bots going and head to QLD nationals this year or a bigger NSW event. Smile
