Bot Register

Just throwing something out here, I've been on and off building a local alternative/replacement for the BuildersDB. I started working on this just after nationals last year because Steve and I had the Bacon & Egg McShits with the costs of the BuildersDB, the slowness of the admin creating the events and the general hassle of getting a robot up on the site.

Now I got it to working alpha state early in the year but it ended up on the back burner for other projects. However with us once again waiting for BuildersDB to get Nationals listed as an event, I've blow the dust off and decided to at least get the test site up for people to try, comment on or propose changes.

Check it out at http://www.botregister.net/testing/

At the moment your can:
- Create/edit a team
- Create/edit a robot
- Create/edit an event
- View Teams, Robots, Events and Rankings

There are some important things missing like a 'Forgotten Password' section and the Ranking section is manually entered into the database. Eventually I'd like to get an event management system running (BattleMaster) so anyone with a web enabled device (smartphone, tablet, computer etc etc) could run an event but it's a much bigger project and more of a Phase 2 thing Razz

If enough people find it satisfactory and want to use it for real, I'll flush the test data out.

You just put a url to an image of your robot in the image box. There is no upload facility at the moment, but I can probably work towards that in the future (Just borrow half my code from the CAD repository Razz)

Haven't had a good look yet, but a small suggestion for when you want to incorporate running rounds with it.
Make the judging and drawing pluggable modules of some kind, everybody wants to do it their own way ;->

Lemme know if I can help, I'm pretty busy at the moment but your more than welcome to use the battleputer draw algo for a base.

I haven't really dug too deep into the event running side of things, it's currently a "Someday we'll have this implemented, and the people will rejoyce" Razz. If you still want to proceed with your web based Battleputer 2.0, I'm happy to integrate or link to it.

At a minimum they need to work together otherwise it'll just duplicate stuff.

We need to work out a way of storing each style of event (round robin, double elim etc) in the database in some way that we can run stats etc on it as a whole.

bugs:

defaults to changing your team to ACT if you dont notice the dropdown box in the team profile page

couldnt seem to create a bot, thought it might have been the image not being accepted so tried without, still wont create a bot

Thanks Jaemus, I'll have a look at those this weekend. I actually noticed the the code up on the site isn't the latest version of my previous testing setup. I have the updated code living here: http://ignite.crystalnode.net/

Try creating a bot there (both sites are linked to the same database right now) and let me know if you have the same issues. Just need to access my newer code and get it across to botregister Smile

I'm currently rewritting all the ranking results in the text format used by the Botrank website. Its a bit mind numbing and I've only done the last 21 competitions, but I can send you the whole lot when I finish the remaining 78 competitions.

Finally a bit of progress on this, and now the rankings are running!
Big thanks to Jake and his code foo skills for helping get this working, also thanks to Daniel for providing results of the events.

Check it out at www.botregister.net/testing/ Cool
