ACT, NSW, QLD or VIC. Will find out in a couple weeks if all goes well. Most-likely ACT or VIC.

Would it be useful to have a video projector for the event? It would make the antweights better viewing and we might use it for background info and replays of other events.

Cool, I can help out with that if needed.

I am also looking at upgrading the ant arena:

* 1 metre square
* 400 to 500mm high
* bisalloy base
* small two stage trapdoor
* the entire top hinges for better access
* designed to fit thru doors!

A platform type thing with walls that sits in the beetle arena would be great for this event. Saves needlessly having two arenas in that little room Smile

That would save space, but then there would be a delay each time we had a new round in each weight class while the arena was changed.

With two arenas there is no delay and they can be run in parallel or used for testing while the other weight class is running. The ants would also get lost behind the bumpers more easily - in my new design there are no bumpers at all so the bots can't move out of sight.

Yeh i meant have a seperate little segment inside the arena at ~1m^2 so all the spectators can see them easily without crawling over each other.

Only 10 people at best could see the arena last time from one and a half sides of it. Just don't see us being able to have room for something twice as big again is all when there will likely be more competitors and spectators.

But no doubt we need a new ant arena for events we have actual space at Laughing

Why not just put the arena on top of the other arena, now you have a decent roof?

I must be missing the point - the beetle arena's roof is above most people's line of sight.

If I get around to building a new arena, I will make a trolley for it so we can wheel it out and people can get around 3 sides for better veiwing. If we can get a live feed to a projector, the small bots will be far more interesting to the crowd.
