RoboWars Nationals DVD... 5% complete Razz
Antweights Round 1 has been edited, rendered and integrated into the DVD menu system. Hoping to bang out a round a night for the new few weeks.

Still chasing more photos of robots if anyone has them, especially beetleweights!!!

If we were only doing 2 days. What would people prefer, all three classes with less rounds or just pick ants or beetles?

Perhaps do what Robogames does - limit the number of entrants in each class?

Yeh. Maybe 12,12,16 would be the upper limit.

I doubt we would fill them though. And might disappoint people if others take up spots then pull out.

Also there isn't too many long weekends around that time. Would people prefer 2 days regardless or was the 3 days worth it considering we could run things a bit slower and make more out of the trip down.

I wasn't pushed. My robots were always ready by the end of the round.

I won't ever take more than two to an event in the future.

A few times last nationals fights got pushed to last of the round with the current time between rounds. Does not bold well for shrinking the between time too much more.

Between fights, that time varied a fair bit last event. Often due to teams having multiple bots one after the other. During the ant day a fair few people started bringing their bots up to the feather arena to speed it up so if everyone did that, could have a higher turn around saving a few minutes a round.

Feathers are the big between fight time killer. The switch or easy removable link with no screw rule will save some time. If space next to the arena could be arranged to safely (for bots and spectators) that could save a bit of time. They are probably most likely to need the big between rounds.

I think we still need some repair time but on a per round basis it could definitely be streamlined.

I sometimes wonder how the pools would go. As in one pool of 6/8 which fights then the second pool. Of course there is issues with some robots never fighting other robots as always but it might allow us to tighten up the per round time and try and make sure you get the min time to recharge, by alternating pools and maybe reduce the time things aren't happening. But this can be further discussed in the "rules" thread.

Also this is probably the first event or first event in a long time for a lot robots. So I would hope people preparedness and general robot quality would go up. I am not sure if I will be able to offer the same scale of prize money. Its not enough to get anyone new interested and its money which could be better used for arena improvements.

I might try and get some sponsors which might be able to help with funds.

At this stage probably won't be able to confirm anything until early next year. But we might expect something similar......

Could we tighten the time in between rounds and simply forfeit one round if we need major repairs? Obviously, we would need to not have the same robot fighting last in a round then first in a subsequent round. If we choose to entertain the crowd, then we should keep the entertainment going as much as possible.

Dare I say it - having a small field works against having a short time between rounds. Larger numbers = more chance to shuffle fights around to suit the mortally damaged...

Well its a balance. If your field is too large you don't get enough time to have all the rounds. If your field is too small then you have too much time waiting.

The splitting into two smaller pools would work as you only shuffle the battles within the pools and stagger the rounds. This means that if you have a larger group say 16 robots. The chance of whoever fought last fighting first in next round with 0 time between is reduced.

Its all a trade off.
