how to speed up my robots drive

Hi guys
At the last event Steve suggested I swap out Judge Mentals 24v scooter motors with 12 volt scooter motors to get a bit more speed .....But Because I have a pile of 24v scooter motors , Im thinking is there a way of turning them into 12v motors(by cutting some wires or something?? I'm running them on 6cell 22v so they are running a bit under speed anyway. Running on hacked tz85s I think they are maxed at 6cells.

So any suggestions?

Could I make there chains shorter?

THanks Mles

You cannot easily alter a motor to spin faster on the same voltage - the motor armature would have to be completely re-wound. The classic ways to get more speed are:

Increase the voltage (also increases pushing power & motor heat)
Decrease the gearing between the motor & wheel
increase the wheel size (another form of gearing)
Change the motor for a lower voltage model

Of course, you can combine any of these to get the result you want. As you are limited to 6 cells, I would look at the gearing options first.

Yeh you really need more power move to 12V scooter motors I think. Changing the gear ratio might help but will reduce its pushing power. Not sure if that is an issue currently.
