[TUT] Ultra simple beetle hubs

What you will need:

Prop adapter x 2 : http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=16578
Wheels x 2: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__5616__Light_Foam_Wheel_Diam_100_Width_30mm_.html
BotBitz 1000rpm Gearmotors: http://www.botbitz.com/
2 x m5 nuts
4 x Washers

This is by no means the best robot motor hub you will ever make but it is possibly the easiest.

The Bits

Disassemble the prop adapter

Slide adapter on to motor, place on washer and tighten up nut. This should squeeze the collet tight so it stays on your motor.

Grab a wheel. A second washer and the top of the prop adapter.

Slide wheel on, then washer and nut and tighten.

Repeat for second wheel

Very very very simple. But pretty dodgy. Hub weights 15g.

I did that using these in squirrel demoraliser, worked pretty damn well except the foam was slipping (probably due to excessively huge diameter).

Out of stock ever since... Sad

They pulled off after killer hit em a few times so will be interesting to see if the collet kind works any better. I'd replace the cone with a nut and body washer for those ones.

A good idea is a good idea Cool

Roman chariot hubs ftw lmao. Thats great.

Perhaps you could get away with making it a bit lighter by using a crush tube between the adaptor and end nut (like inside the foam wheel) and then you'd only need the one nut instead of 2.

Yeh I think there is a lot of ways they could be made better, with a few mods.

However I was going for easiest and simplest. You require maybe a vice or a pair of multigrips and a spanner to do this.

Fine tuning things yourself is half the fun of being a builder, you can't do ALL the work for everyone Smile
