QRSC Nationals TODO list

So what do we need to get ready ....

Arena Roof.

New antweight floor?

Arena Timer?

Robot Scheduler?

Also would it be beneficial to run a 12V Bus along workbenches?

Roof steel is currently being ordered. Dad has that covered. Me and aaron are doing a build weekend in Toowoomba which should get a large chunk of this done. Will still need to setup and try everything. Which is what we may spend quite a lot of work doing on 14th Oct if we are still good for that date.

Insurance is the next step we need. This will be our first on the to purchase list, as we start to get a few entry fees. We already have the majority of the funds for this in the bank. There is several future public events which this will be used for so it is longer term than just this event.

12V bus has been dismissed as a bad idea.

I would like to see new antweight floor, and move pit to the side. Can anyone do this? I can let you into hackerspace sometime if you want to grab arena. Alternatively could ask nick if he would like to bring the NSW antweight arena. (Also we need one of those little black conenctors)

Beetle Arena. Suggestions?

Feather floor. I am thinking about just laying some pine down and doing exactly the same thing as last time except screwing the #!@$@#! thing down. Either that or we cut a slot in concrete and drop in 3mm steel plate. However this still means we aren't able to move out of hackerspace.

Edit** ^^^ Raised floor won't let door open. I think we should change this as floor is a recurring issue.

Me and Aaron are doing build day for roof trusses next week.

We have the cash for insurance now. Just need confirmation that the hackerspace will have theirs sorted out.

Then can begin advertising.

The polycarb walls are 900mm so I am assuming the floor is the same size? But Daniel is the only one who would know.

How would people feel about a steel floor? Seems to have stood up well in NSW even if its a bit heavy.

Cut the floor to match the arena, not the drawings. We had this issue with the first antweight arena where the floor was 5mm smaller in each direction.

If we go for a steel floor, we will have to decide the rules for hold down magnets. The Americans seem to have problems with that one. We could go for stainless.

Stainless floor, sounds like a way to get expensive quick.

Yeh a thin sheet of stainless might be the go. Or if you really want to make some good vids could go a Ti floor though that will get expensive even faster.

Will price it. To be honest NSW guys have the floor and I think Andrew used magnets to hold ash tray down. I personally would be fine with it but would have the proviso that the robot cannot be suspended by its magnets. And if robots are entangled due to magnets that is an automatic loss.

So solves the problem of the walls bowing out and the floor bowing up.

Only downside I can see is it would require 19 Sheets of MDF/Ply. However as there is 2 lots of 8 sheets. We can swap in and out the good/bad sheets so we should at least get double the amount of rounds out of them.

Also estimated price on Stainless ant floor would be $100+ for 2-3mm. Might be able to get away with 1mm or 1.5mm if we glued it to a MDF sheet for support.

You should only need about 1 mm stainless. It should be quite strong enough to support ants over the 800 - 900 span.

@Daniel, what is the dimension of the ant floor? Have you got the plastic T-piece for the frame? What size is the T-piece?

I agree with backing it with MDF, has done wonders for our thin steel ant floor. Smile

Our arena floor is made from 1mm steel with a 12mm MDF panel glued to the back. The floor became WAY stiffer as soon as the panel was glued in and screwing the aluminium edging improved things further. There are some gouges in the floor now but no actual dents. I'd be happy to bring the arena up if it would be useful.
