Antweight compilation should be done in 10-15mins. Going to upload the Antweight high speed at work tomorrow (10mins / 1.1Gb). Beetles and Feathers are going up next. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

Hi guys
Love that flame thrower!
This vid is a highlights cut of Daniels slow mo footage...Could have just used Sidewinder for the whole 4mins.... but got as many in as possible..Great shooting by the way Daniel!
So wrap up of the day. Event was pretty good, it was a lot of fun but we still have a few things to work out. It is good to be able to try and get everything tweaked in a sort of semi public setting.
The main problem I think was lack of scheduling. I wasn't really on top of that and may have to think about it for next time. My thoughts are just getting it up on a white board with the fights scheduled. There is no reason why we can't do up the draw the night before hand and have most things worked out.
The other idea was a fight every 5min with a count down timer to when it is supposed to start, up on a screen. This would require a bit more work but if you have all the fights in a list with a time till the fight next to them it would be good for the public so they know what is coming up and good for builders as they know when they have to be ready by. I was sort of thinking a countdown with a 2min siren for builders to be in the arena. We would also need some sort of dynamic rescheduling I think so we can put ready bots before the others. I don't really want to disqualify anyone for not making a hard time limit but the more we know what is going on, and can tell people when to expect the next fight, the better.
Continuing along these lines I think a fixed number of rounds before the event would be good. I think we are maxing out at ~3 rounds with the number of robots. So maybe we should set it up to run 3 rounds then top 1/2 go through to the finals.
So what else…
Ant arena. Pit triggering and timing is a slight issue. Would like to automate that but time to do it is always the problem. I have some ideas. (I would also like to suggest that we put the pit off centre) Its good having a pit but once it opens the fight sort of ends and you have to dance around it until one person falls in. IMO it really gets in the road and the fight ends more due to luck then skill. (I did see philip pick people up and dump them in more than once which is obviously skill but this can still happen if its not in the centre)
Feather arena. Floor will be the death of me. Or well lack of floor in this case…. I am up for easy ideas to try and stop robots getting stuck underneath it? Raised floor could be cool. Even if it was only 15cm high could put a pit in that. If coupled with this we had an internal barrier would add an extra layer of protection to our walls. Once again would be nice to have a timer and stuff for the arena. Could possibly clone whatever we try out on the Ant arena.
Beetles. Wow pretty fail for the day. But at least we have started I think these are probably be the cheapest robots you can build atm as we have sort of gone past the point in ants of just being able to throw something together out of plastic. With tiny gearmotors custom ESCs and receivers….. Next time we may need some form of barrier to the walls in order to restrict them a little as whole feather arena is too big.
So what next.
Serial Space event is in 5/6 weeks so that will sort of be main focus for myself and Aaron. We could do something before that or maybe few weeks after. I would also like to look at either doing arena roof, floor or panels. _________________ Steven Martin

Scheduling: The draw was up and available for viewing on Daniel's computer. It showed the draw for all three classes. Maybe we needed to let builders know to look at it so they could prepare themselves.
Ant pit: I have got no worries with moving the pit to one side. The one time I went down the pit certainly was not due to luck. Alex was all over me from go to whoa. An out of control robot bouncing from wall to wall can fall down the pit by luck. Moving the pit won't stop that. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

I was called out on a emergency job at work today so the laptop went with me. Feathers are still uploading, will plug it into the 4MB uplink at work in the morning to get a bit more speed. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/
Looks like a great event as usual from what i've seen so far!
Well done to all involved! _________________ <Patrician|Away> what does your robot do, sam
<bovril> it collects data about the surrounding environment, then discards it and drives into walls

Feathers now done. Just need to process the high speed video and finish a beetle/feather compilation. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/
Youtube vids should be done soon. I am abusing QUTs internet. Currently consuming 2mb/s for robot vids. Can't tell how much upload..... _________________ Steven Martin
