Team Combat Penguin - ants, feathers and other things

Hello all! i'm Harry yes, i am from england but i have quite a large portion of my family living in oz so chances are i will be over there in the not so distant future to get my arse handed to me by a different group of people Smile

Robots wise i have 2 (becoming 3) antweights, 1 (becoming 2 fleaweights), two feathers that need rebuilding and a heavyweight.

Ants:
DeodorAnt: is a 2wd lifter made from 12mm HDPE, 1mm HDPE and 0.5mm ti, running off 50:1 hp motors and a 2 cell lipo.

if it aint broke break it: 2wd brushed spinner. spinner is used in the loosest possible way, a large brushed motor spinning a length of steel ruler. drive is 2 hobby king turigy servos(speed hacked) planning to go brushless next any suggestions for a good motor under a tenner?

Feathers:

Murphy's law: is a 2wd lifter powered by 9.6v drill motors running off a 12v 4a nimh which i may upgrade to a123 or lipo. it is armoured in 12mm hdpe and 10mm hdpe, 4mm aluminum, 3.2mm hardox and 8mm polycarbonate. it needs a new top cover and back plate. do you think that will hold up against your spinners?

the dove from above: 4wd pusher, is being rebuilt.

i also have a beetle in the works and the frame and armour of a heavyweight.

thanks for reading ill get some pictures or something later Smile

Hello Harry,

It'd be great to have you here. The robot fighting scene is not nearly as big here as in the UK or US. We're really happy for any increase in numbers.
If, say, one person in a million in a given country is interested in building robots...
well, you can do the math.

Against Scissorhands and Demon, you'll want all the armour you can fit while staying within the weight limit!

Demon, just brutal... and when Scissorhands hits, you can expect breakage!
Every time these bots connect, its money in the bank for some lucky business Very Happy

Nice bot, Well planed little bot. If that is the actuator I think it is be careful not to over volt it or it will quickly die (half an event for me). May be different. Do not get much of a look.

If you ever plan to compete it in or at an event attended by NSW bots it may need an armor upgrade Very Happy. And non exposed wheels. In Vic or QLD less high powered spinners.

12mm HPDE will take a hit or two and remove large chunks of armor.
Your shorter lengths may result in less armor loss but also less strength and dispersion of force.

Also am I right that at least some internal parts are mounted with Ali right angle bracket?

2007-2008 19mm cutting board plastic lasted 1-2 hits against the big spinners

Hardox wedge will take a beating. overall weapon could be effective here.

its a 12v actuator on 12v (giving the 9.6 drills a little more kick)
i was thinking of putting wheelguards on anyhow, most of the front and sides is either hardox or 10mm aluminum with the batterys being protected by 10mm hdpe, the top is 6, 10 and 12mm hdpe and the back is polycarbonate and hdpe

what is a good material for wheelguards?
