SCI-Fi SYDNEY SATURDAY 9TH APRIL

Hello boys and girls

Myself, nick and Angus attended the weekly meeting of the R2D2 builders club near Nicks house

Very impressive setup there, i took electric sofa chair, the antweight and misc motors etc to show them. They loved the sofa chair and were amused by the antweight.

They are attending an event called Sci-fi sydney in Chatswood on 9th April.

They have politely offered us some space (a table and such) to my knowledge at no cost.

Current plan is to take some antweights and beetles (if any r working splendid) or mangled old pieces that cannot damage people (sliced hands etc).
A temporary small arena shall be made by myself, Nick and Angus (just a test arena to run ants around in etc)
Nick is doing some documents to hand out to passers by and stuff to promote robot combat in Australia as a whole
Generally we just need to make an appearance and see what happens.

I will also take power sofa for fun, bit of a laugh from attendees and may even set it up on a slower speed for people to have a drive in for a gold coin donation or something.

So yeah, thats the details people so time to pull our fingers out and get our asses back into gear because this opportunity is too good to pass up.

I just started assembling an antweight arena for the SCI-Fi event. The base is a steel panel that will give a 900 by 740mm arena floor. The walls are 500mm high 3mm thich polycarb with aluminium angle joiners at the edges. The roof will be polycarb as well. Its all one piece to make it easy to build and set up - as long as it will fit thru a venue's door, it will be ready to go as soon as it is placed on a table. Smile

Now we just need a few more bots to fill it....

The ant arena is well under way; everything except the polycarb sheet has been purchased, the floor is all done and I am attaching the aluminium angle that holds the sides. If I can grab the polycarb by mid-week, everything will be done by early April and in time for the event Smile

Just ordered an eye-blistering 60 watts of LED lighting Shocked, that should light up the arena more than adequately! Now I just have to find an adequate reflector the narrow down the 130 deg. beam to around 60 deg.

Epic Nick! Awesome it's coming together so quickly, having a small portable arena for the club, even just for ants, will be a big plus. Cool

Agreed. The arena is really simple to build and we can add a trapdoor and other refinements later. I am not sure if the lighting will be ready in time but a clear roof means the venue lighting will work for us.

Not great, I have been concentrating on the arena. I will be making something like andrew's ant, hopefully with a short vertical blade and Sanyo motors in place of servos. Wheels are the biggest problem at the moment; I will have to make a set of hubs from scratch.

Yeah good. Need to start making spares for it while waiting for the taps and bolts to arrive to allow me to do blade mounting.

Copying Andrew k and drilling and tapping 4 m2.5 holes into motor can

Nick- I can do u some servo mod drives with wheels attached worst case if u want.
