Perfect! Do you happen to know what type of spline the output has? HK have some cheap Metal servo horns that would last longer than the plastic ones that come with the servo. Just the right price too

Some more arena progress; I powered up one of the 10 watt LEDs and while its the brightest LED I have seen, it was a bit underwhelming for lighting the work bench at 600mm. It will take all 6 LEDs for the effect I am after, the reflector I am adding should really help as well.
The LED power supply was DOA when I powered it up, seems I screwed something up in the assembly. Part of the circuit works and no magic smoke came out, so its probably an open circuit somewhere in the drive to the switching FET. Time to break out the scope...
The arena walls are getting attached to the base tonight and/or tomorrow, then its mainly down to cosmetics. The aluminium angle at the base of the walls looks pretty ugly; I could spray paint it black, but a better idea is to cover it with a painted wood edging. I have all the materials but it might not be ready in time for next week.
The jumbo servos for the trapdoor are ordered. Hobbyking have some good quality metal servo horns for under $4 but that will have to wait until I know what the servo splines are like. I also ordered some Sparkfun parts to get the arena timer progressed.

Damnit, I was up to my ears in uni work all day and forgot to check for you. Just looked then, its certainly a huge spline, all the standard size servos I could find just slipped inside and the horn had 100% free play. The screw to hold the horns on is M3 You might not trust the plastic, but it comes with a horn 10cm long, and it might well be decent enough to fling a couple 150g robots.
EDIT: I don't have any futuba servos, but i'm 90% sure GS and towerpro use a futuba spline? They're the kind I have. _________________ ( •_•)

No problems, if a regular size servo horn is way too small, none of the HK metal parts would have fitted anyway. There will need to be a linkage between the servo horn and the trapdoor in any case - the link can incorporate a spring to save the plastic servo arm.

Arena Progress:
Everything is going well, here is how it looks with two walls attached:
The only real problem today was the crappy Bunnings sheet metal screws - the heads were twisting off every 3rd or 4th screw until I drilled out the mounting holes in the base to the point where the screws had hardly any grip.
The third wall is now attached and the last wall will go on in a day or two. The LED lighting is progressing a bit with a new heatsink large enough for 6 modules:
The heat sink must have been salvaged 15 years ago - really glad I didn't throw it out!

Now you can use that as ammo to justify any hoarding to the missus!
So could we get any details on the exhibition, location times what to take etc?

I was trying to figure out how to move the arena around and store it, when I had a really wacky idea - build a motorised base with some wheelchair motors that Andrew gave me. New event rule: losers shall be chased out of the venue and crushed.

So, how many antweights are we going to get? Its not a competition, its just a promotional event so you can have a partly built bot in any running state to show off or a working bot to knock around a coke can or have a low damage match if we get two or more bots. The reason I'm asking is that I have a couple of 2am starts for work coming up and if we don't have enough working bots to warrant finishing the arena this week, I will just sleep in a bit
I put together a long selection of video clips to run in a loop, will take a laptop and a screen to show on our table. Also getting a basic A4 flyer put together.
