VIC - Conference Display - 31st March. - Cancelled

Venue: Ahh somewhere in Melbourne
Time: 7pm - 11pm 31st March 2011

So this looks like we might be going ahead with this nothing confirmed as of yet they are still waiting on budget before they can let me know whether we fit into this or not. But looking promising.

Few important details.
- ATM this is going to be more of a show than any sort of event.
- IT IS MIDWEEEK!!!!
- Arena size will be pretty small
- Will be running feathers
- For insurance reasons the event will be run as a QRSC

@ Rob if you could pass this information on to gary would be good not sure what the best way to contact him is. Also trailer access is not a problem so the small trailer arena is a go. In current budget proposal will be enough cash to cover arena and maybe some for repairs/maintenance on robots but like I said all still to be confirmed.

Also for insurance reasons I will need a CAD of the arena to be certified by our resident mechanical engineering (Daniel). I hear you are pretty good at CAD so if you can get it out of Garys head prior to being built that would also be very good.

@QRSC if anyone has any objections to us running an event interstate please voice concerns now. This event should cover us for another year of insurance.

@Everyone else if there is enough interest I could look at working with sidetracked to have an event on the weekend following it, I am not sure how we would work this.

nice work at getting something organised for us!
i just have a few questions
what is this show for?
do you mean they are paying us enough to build a small portable arena? or is there already one?
and dude an event after that would be sweet, just let me know if you need a hand with anything, thanks

Q2 Yes. And that sorta covers Q3.

Got the message, Brett tracked me down. Smile

That worked out as I couldn’t even log on to the forum. PM notifications bouncing back from my overflowing email in box probably.

Been focused on honoring a few other obligations lately and have been unplugged.

Robs of camping, will get the cad happening in a few days when he gets back.

The trailer project goes back to before the Sidetracked arena, I was going to build it and Brett was going to take it around to shopping malls etc and try to drum up interest.

Build a few hobbie weights for demoes etc.

Partly why the IBC exists as we wonted to build heavies and the little bots were just the thin edge of the wedge.

Then Barry at Sidetracked offered to build an arena and the trailer project got delayed.

Good to see there will be something happening Smile

Im getting started on the CAD drawings today, I'm using a 2008 copy of autodesk inventor. When im complete ill send the file over to Daniel, i think he uses solidworks but as i understand the solidworks program can translate inventor files without loss of information

Actually I think he uses inventor as well. In any case can always export to a generic format.

Hi guys.

Been bugging these guys on and off for past few weeks pretty much gave them an ultimatum of this Friday based on current budget. I have not had any real indication as to whether they are really serious about this since posting this thread so I am inclined to think that they may not be going to follow through.

Will keep you guys up to date but at this point in time things aren't looking positive. I will let you know if I hear anything from them on Friday.

Yeh I am sorry about that but not a lot I can do. Gotta try and balance it to some extent, need to push to make it happen but don't want to push too hard or they decide its too much hassle and its not worth it.

I think I made it pretty clear that I would need most things sorted ASAP so that I could prepare for everything. As I am going away for 3 weeks end of Feb its getting to the point where its not going to be feasible even if I am counting on you guys to help out.

I could always pass it back to you but then it all takes 3 steps backwards as our insurance goes out the door. Then you need to get your own, and odds are they won't give you enough cash upfront to cover even that let alone the cost of the arena.

Ersh. Starting to remember why I say I am never doing that again after each event. At least my hair is short now so I wont notice it as much falling out.

Arena designs look good from what I can see. Online PDF viewer fail and I can't download it apparently file doesnt exist.

No response yet. Basically said last chance to at least get main details sorted by the end of the week. They are still screwing around and haven't really given me any clear indication whether they intend to follow through or not.

If they can't manage to get themselves together by then I don't like the chances of everything going smoothly up to the event. I know its still two months away but this has been going on since like the start of November so if I can't get an answer I think it will unfortunately have to go in the too hard basket.

Sad

Thank you for trying Marto, I wish these guys were better at communication their intentions, they came to us proposing we put a show on for them but they seem to not give us much priority once you tried to arrange things with them, very annoying.

We are satisfied that the motivation from this has encouraged us to put some of our old robots back together, which have been in pieces for a long time and we will still build a mobile arena but maybe now since we wont be within a time limit it makes more sense to build the large mobile arena instead, this one will have 2 extra polycarb panels so it will be roughly twice the size of the small one. I'm not sure what happened with the pdf i uploaded, bit of a fail with their site, i know of a better place to upload pdfs, robowars wiki maybe?

I think that now this is not going ahead I am happy to give the sidetracked event some more priority for anyone interested in coming along.
