just use L bracket and bolts, i think he means using big internal bulkheads instead of a box section type frame too.

i would just use standard box section or make it out of panels bolted together. tapping things together is not something i like too much in terms of strength.

Im thinking of makeing my frame out of some kind of plastic NOt polycarb but something more like chopping board 8-10mm thick but a little more flexible that will not shatter like my now dead chopping board i hit with an axe and busted it into about 20 bits.

any ideas on anything light and easy to get a hold of?

The reason being is to get someone to weld up all my frame before the next event is hopeless the way things are going with other peeps doing welding and cutting and shit for me so insted i thought id make my frame out o platic and just glew and screw it together and that way id have it done in 2-3 days after i cut out all the bits and it would be easyer to maintane and change or repair panels then haveing a solid chunk o ali that if i get some major damage i have to redo the whole frame.

try UHMW

its flexible, wont shatter and its pretty though. ive seen it used in middleweights and i think the superheavy weight bounty hunter used it as armour.

dont expect it to stop the spinners though.

plexiglass is a fancy name for perspex.

to tell if you have perspex or lexan, just bend a piece. you should be able to get a piece of 3mm to have a bend of about 180 degrees. a piece of perspex will crack at that sort of angle.

also when you drill perspex hard it will have a distinctive cracking sound that you can hear, lexan will not.

well with a 10mm drill bit in a ux1 drill it had no sound at all.

But where i got it from the place mainly works with perspex and only the odd lexan as i got a 30cm bye 30cm 8mm thick clear sheet of lexan for free?

And i got a 30cm pile of 35cm long 18cm wide and 3mm thick white sheets for free!!!

But i cant tell what it is?the protective orange plastic film had no writing on it?

orange protective coating... not sure about that but lexan usually has a white plastic coat or a brown paper type covering.

just start bending it and see if it breaks really. if it doesnt its lexan, if it does its perspex

Can polycarbonate be cut successfully with a jigsaw? I would like to cut curves and holes into 1.5 mm poly.

LOL no sweat at all, polycarb is almost as easy as wood to cut.

1.5mm might be a little too easy to cut though. might want to put some wood behind it to stop it flapping around.

if the holes are less than 50mm diameter i would just do them on a holesaw

I have this clear plastic that my brother says is polycarbonate. You can fold it and cut it with scissors. It's 3mm thick. What is it?

You would be hard pushed to cut 3mm poly with scissors unless they pretty awesome scissors.

Take a small piece and try and bend it in half. if it snaps before you get halfway, it isnt polycarb. pound it with a hammer. 3mm poly is almost impossible to break. if it shatters or anything like that, its not poly.

Or wait for the word from one of the Kero's bros. they probably know a more accurate way to test for polycarb than I do.. Smile
