Ok my thoughts atm.

Floor:
We get 16 sheets of 16mm MDF. Cut 4 in half so they are offset and then screw the top layer to the bottom layer with countersunk screws. Simple easy. As for sourcing material I am thinking just getting them from a timber shop will be easiest. If anyone knows any cabinet makers trying to get rid of MDF please let me know but its not worth the effort otherwise.

Flashing:
Not sure where to get this from need ~ 20m of min 150x150mm.

Antweight Pit:
I am thinking a pit which you can raise or lower in the middle possibly with some sort of scissor lift mechanism. I will sort this out. The arena also needs to be painted and needs something around the edge of the platform.

Prize Money:
I am hoping for a fair bit. Maybe $1-2k over all the classes. I dunno if this is going to be possible but have planned meeting with the edge next week. So need to sort it out then.

Sponsorship:
I would also like to be able to sponsor some interstate feathers. Nothing official yet but I am looking into it. Depends on funding really.

Weight Divisions:
Ants and Feathers are definite.
How may beetles do we have keen?

Challenge Events:
Also there may be some challenge events for antweights & workshop antweights.
Current ideas are
- having to drive a raised course without falling off in a minimum time.
- antweight soccer
- for workshop antweights a few rounds where it is last man standing with pit open
- prizes for best looking, most creative ect..
This is to keep people who do the workshops interested and hopefully convert them to proper builders.

Pit Location:
We definitely will need more pit space and tables. Power situation was great but just not enough room. Will probably double the area of last time but this might still not be enough.

Viewing Areas:
The Feather arena position could possibly have been better there isnt a lot of space around it and people tended to struggle to see a little. I think it has to stay in the same location but does anyone have any ideas about how to solve the viewing problem. Bleaches are an option I guess but I don't think we have the space.

Extra Screens:
Possibly to help with the above. Also maybe a DJ & VJ would help.

Judging:
This got a bit messy last time. I think we need to have some people appointed for this for the whole day. Not sure exactly how to work this. We also need to have a set ref to count down the KOs and make decisions on reseting robots. In QLD we have always been fairly lax on the immobility rulings and arena malfunctions allow for resets. All efforts will be made to remain consistent but its often difficult to do.

Looking for comments thoughts and volunteers.

Steve

If I don't bring a featherweight (despite all your nagging Steve Razz) I can volunteer to be a judge / ref.

Featherweight Floor:
I think 19 mm yellow tongue would be ideal. It is about $38 per 3.6 m * 0.9 m sheet at Bunnings, IIRC.

Featherweight Flashing:
Stratco have all sizes of flashing. You might want to get a price from them.

Admin wise:
Everything you have said sounds good. Your last Edge event was brilliant.

Judging:
IMO, give each watching, experienced builder a piece of paper to write down who they think won. In the event of a tie, go to the audience for their favourite.

You might need to write down this event's immobility rules etc before the event so that everyone is judging by the same criteria.

Just added this page to the wiki for the KitBots class.

Quite a few of the current robots should be able to compete which is cool.

Added page on event judging.

Looking for feedback particularly on the immobility section. Basically if you think your opponent is immobile you have to ask the ref to start countdown. This leaves it open for those who like to tear in to robots for the crowd if your opponent doesn't tap out.

Would a robot with servo drives that uses a B328 instead of the servo boards be within the spirit of the KitBots rules?

That is an interesting question. I am tempted to say yes but it may open the door for people to abuse it. e.g. running servos at 11v+. I am saying yes atm but is provisional on EO approval before each event.

I am looking at using these servos at 2s driving the 40 mm wheels used in the kit http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9392 Turnigy MG90S Metal Gear Servo 1.8kg / 13.4g / 0.10sec. They are the same as the kit ones, but with metal gears.

Also is anyone else interested in Event T-Shirts?
I am going to get few made up for myself. I think they should be around $30-40. Will post design later. Cash will be needed prior to ordering. I may have a few extras available on the day however it is unlikely.

I am going to re-hash the poster that we made last time and just post it around uni. Not too worried about edge approval this time. Better to ask for forgiveness than permission. Can anyone else post them around there workplace/shopping center/community groups/ect?
