Antweights again everybody.

Hopefully we will be able to set it up at the Edge. Failing that we can hold a backyard event at my place or at Daniel's which ever suits best.

If we do it at the Edge how does an afternoon meet sounds as they open at twelve say 2 - 6 but they close at 8 if we really get in to the battling.

Current Bots
- Scorpy
- Kruger
- Fury Jr
- Stig
- Spinderalla
- Jack The Flipper
- (a spinner that hasn't been named yet, from mat)

Possible Bots
- Ham and Cheese Sandwich
- (Robot #1 from Twisted Constructions probably spinner)
- (Robot #2 from Twisted Constructions probably spinner)
- (Robot #3 from Twisted Constructions probably spinner)

All good. Stig is in.

Can we send an invite to everyone who bought an ant kit?

I still have the mailing list. Although if we didn't get anyone turning up to the comp not sure if we will get anybody to a smaller event.

Also Phillip hopefully will have your motors B328 with basic code on it ready to go next week. I am just going to get it driving round then we can worry about lipo warnings custom mixing, flipper control later.

Edge has given the green light still working out specifics. What do you guys think is the likelyhood of us having a lipo fire? That is my only concern.

Despite it being unlikely if I mention it they will probably get scared and not want to have it inside however I don't really want to say nothing in case it does happen. Has anyone seen a battery catch fire? I might do the experiment to see how much of a hazzard it is. I guess there is a few scenarios where it could be an issue. Short circuit, battle damage or charging damaged battery. Last one is the most likely to lead to fire.

I might intentionally short circuit and damage some batteries to see if I can make them ignite to see how big a risk this will be.

It's no different to a laptop catching fire due to a battery issue.
Bucket of sand to bury the battery in as it burns and take it outside is fairly safe.

I think the probability of a lipol fire these days is very low. I accidentally shorted a Turnigy 160 mAh battery the other day. It swelled and the wires sparked and smoked but the battery did not catch fire.

We hit one with a hammer, shorted it, overcharged it, reverse charged it and hit it with a machete until it was cut in half and all we got was a fruity smell.

Righto good to know. Might still try a few things. I guess with the size of antweight batteries the risk is also much lower.

Also still waiting on pay anyone authorisation from ANZ so that I can sort out money owed, sorry guys I know I want my money as well. Think they screwed up my change of address.

Chris has had more fire than anybody else (when its not on purpose) he set his wires on fire from his battery drill packs.

robots can catch fire regardless of the battery chemistry, provided you have a brain and an extinguisher handy it should be fine.

IE if your robot smokes in the arena, don't take it out until the smoke has stopped.

I thought I remembered reading a datasheet or msds which said to use salt water. The water being for the fire, and the salt in there to discharge the battery.

Pretty much follow battery warnings of don't charge in equipment (preferably a lipo bag or non-burnable enclosure), monitor the temperature, check for physical damage, etc.

I remember there was a video reposted on here from the ?rfl forums? where a normal lipo was charged to flames (intentionally), it took 35V for a 12V? pack, forcing a constant 2A into it I think. Puffed up to three times the size before going, something you would hope to notice beforehand. After which it burned, but was on a metal plate so there wasn't much danger of anything else catching fire.

I had to look into this a bit for the iNexus comp, with the resolve on the OHS danger/likelyhood chart, that there was a minor risk of burns to hands, maybe some minor smoke inhalation and a fairly low chance of it happening with most cattery chargers not charging under-voltage cells, over-voltage cutoffs, intimate knowledge of the robots that they were using so they would notice a puffy cell (something that might change for your crew) and having knowledgeable people around to respond in the rare case that it did occur (to secure a safe way to transport it [kero's can recount the case at robogames where it was passed through the builders fence to get it outside away from everything] outside or drown it in water)

I can probably also add another 3 possible robots from other members of my family.

Don't know if they have names yet but they are possibilities.
