Nice work, that tutorial is pretty simple!
Should be cool to see a bunch of these little lifters chasing each other around the arena flipping and stacking each other
Kit bot doesn't fit in the 4" cube does it? Might have to toss that rule for the workshop _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/
No definitely not fitting in cube. I reckon screw the rule all together. Not in RFL ruleset and seriously if you can build something much bigger in under 150g goodluck. _________________ Steven Martin

Went to the edge today to place our order. There was a few issues with the corporate credit card which we were using to place the order so have to go back tomorrow and finish that off.
Took over two kits which I had made up and they seemed pretty excited about that. _________________ Steven Martin

Nice beginner tute.
should work well as a basic guide to get a simple bot up and going with active wedge.
Few things i noticed that you can ignore and should not be taken as criticism
page 1 states you use RFL rules for all events if that is the case might be worth calling hte bots Fairyweight + the fact you ditched the size restriction that the us Fairyweight never had.
one thing i thought of might be worth a.
robots can be dangerous. take care when building and operating.
or such such thing near the top
also kitparts.
1 x Carbon fibre
fibreglass strip
is the strip a combination of carbon and glass fibres? if not i know of a few material engineers who would not be too impressed with that statement unless you get a strip of each. that being said no one in the public would care.
a clearer closeup on the voltage regulator clearly showing that the ground and output are not touching so people without electronic knowledge can see what to is happening if you are not doing that for them.
page 14 has
"4 Charging
The" and then apears to stop with just pictures after it. think thats you putting the heading like after the picuters and not yet finished _________________ Remember to trust me, I am an Engineer.
Yes safety warning is probably very necessary at the start good point.
Yeh I intend to put carbon fibre in the actual kit but atm all I had was some PCB off cuts lying around which aren't even really fibreglass. So slight issue there but if your a material engineer I hope you don't need the tut.
Yes some pictures are dodgy due to Iphone camera not working up close. The regulator is a problem which will be address in real kit as I will put proper plug on it. Plugging in backwards kills it and if you can they will.
Yes there are a few sections left to go in, yet.
Thanks sean for reading and comments. _________________ Steven Martin

All the parts from hobbyking have been ordered. Hopefully these are shipped by the end of the week and are here sometime next week.
The total cost for these was $80AUD per robot. Still a few bits left out wheels, epoxy, boxes, bolt and regulator. But with these included should be pretty close to $95.
The regulators and few test boxes have been ordered, to see if jiffy boxes are suitable. Wheels am going to wait a day or two and see if hobbyking gets something in stock and will include them with my next order. Otherwise aaron has found a source locally for a reasonable price.
The two small robots I took to the edge are running rounds and significantly decreasing productivity. They had a few more comments about the tutorial. Basically I need better pictures and if you include a part you need to say what it is. I had the bind lead in there and having leftover parts was a little troubling. (Anyone who has ever pulled something apart will know that.)
Other than that made a few more updates to QRSC.org.au to give some more info about the workshops. They are looking at doing some advertising which is good.
@Daniel/Andrew Did you want to repair your arena. Or should I just build one from scratch which can be disassembled and is easily portable?
Also looking for more volunteers for the 18th so far its only aaron. _________________ Steven Martin

If you mean the ant arena, repairs are easy. We just need 3 bits of bunnings polycarb for the walls and we can use the spare 6mm polycarb from the feather arena for the roof. I think I still have paint for the floor. If I go to Bunnings on the weekend I could have it finished on saturday.
Thanks was just wondering whether you will have time to fix it. Also how hard is it to transport? Can it be pulled apart relatively easily?
Keep the bunnings receipts and I will make sure you are re-imbursed.
Another question is did we want a raised platform in the middle? I am voting yes as otherwise it might get a bit boring especially with all flippers. But I think it needs to have at small wall say 30-50mm round the edge or some sort of ramp. So its hard to just drive off. _________________ Steven Martin

I hate Hobby King!
Before ordering I checked everything was in stock. Once the order was made my batteries where suddenly out of stock and take a week to come in. A week latter it will be 2 weeks. 2 weeks latter they will be another 2 weeks and then a month. So I canceled the order and reordered with batteries that are in stock. A week latter and I get an email that the order is being processed and expect it to be delivered in 48 hours. 3 days later another email that it has been posted and I can expect 45 days postage time.
I know they are cheap and shouldn't expect too much but that is frustrating. _________________ Get Some!!!

Yeh I dunno what the deal is with the 2 postage notifications. They usually come a few days apart. Second one is the real one.
Never order anything which isn't in stock and watch out if its getting close. 45Days what the hell did you post it with. Air mail is usually here within 4 days after it is posted. _________________ Steven Martin
