I ordered some stuff too. I got some ant pneumatic stuff but also a brushless motor because I can't decide what to build. Unfortuantly my brushless controller is on back order so it might take a while to arrive.
Well got an ant together using parts which I think we will go with for workshop.
A few things which we are going to need.
- Double sided tape
- lots of random pieces of plastic
- Zip ties.
Everything went together very easily. Its a bit rough but I think if we can get them to throw something together then have a few battles we should be getting quite a few back for some more.
The 7806 regulator seemed to work fine with no caps. Just wired the pins straight up, fixed most of the servo jitter issues. Reg gets warm but not too hot to touch.
As far as equipment goes. I think we will need a fair few spare parts. As well as some basic tools for everyone. I am not sure how much the edge will be able to provide but we made need to source our own.
Bare minimum I think we probably need pliers, scissor, small screwdrivers.
I am also not budgeting for lipoly chargers in the kit $90 price tag on the workshop. So I am thinking that a 4 AAA battery holder with plug so they can continue to play with the ant at home even if they dont want to buy a lipoly charger.
I am going to order enough parts for 2 more hopefully next week when I get a bit more cash. Will finish off the tutorial document I am writing hopefully this weekend then can give these two to some people and see if they can make them. _________________ Steven Martin

You can tell people to bring in icecream containers for plastic, good thickness for ants. _________________ ( •_•)

Good on you, Steve. You are putting in a lot of work. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems
Well I think I have pretty much got enough photos to do up everything.
I put together a sorta kit thingy and got room mate to build it.
Found out few things. Crappy epoxy doesn't work well. Wheels sorta were very wobbly. And not having a plug on the regulator which can only be plugged in one way ends with blue smoke. Also I need to come up with a bit better lifter arm and way of attaching it. Also one of the batteries I bought appears to be DOA.

A national robotics competition with two full days of live bands and as much destruction as you can handle. Think hyperactive, flame throwing bumper cars on a bad day in the apocalypse. With a very loud soundtrack.
When were you going to tell us? Guess you want my arena?
I am hopefully ordering the parts for first workshop on monday.
I need to know how much cash we need to build/fix the antweight arena?
And also I need to know who else can help out on the 18th of April?
I am happy to do a lot of this by myself but I will need some help on the day.
I think basically most of this stuff will be coming out of my pocket then they will give us the agreed amount after we deliver the workshop. This is not including the $1800 worth of parts which they are ordering for the workshop upfront so I think that's quite reasonable and don't have a problem with it.
I have parts for 2 kits which hopefully I will get finished this weekend and can give to the guys at the edge for them to play with. The tutorial is getting there though the two week lag time from HK is starting to annoy me.
The posters I got done up apparently can't be used as they have to be approved by the edge. Which is a little annoying but understandable and I haven't had a chance this week to bug them to approve \ do up their own.
Less than a month now, where the hell did that time go. Hopefully will get a fair bit more done tomorrow. Starting to get a bit worried but things always seem to get done when they need to.
Steve
Also if anyone has any random plastic, aluminum or other bits lying around which they think might be useful can you try and collect them. What I would like to do for the workshop is give them their robots and if they want to build it exactly as I did, ok. But if now we have a box of random parts and they can make whatever they want. _________________ Steven Martin

Good work Steve. Put my name down for helping out at the workshop. I'm about to post off some materials to the water jet place for uMBX, so hopefully I'll have it running by then _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/
Getting there writing up the tutorial now. Will hopefully have it done tonight. _________________ Steven Martin

Tutorial has sorta been done. If anyone has any comments please let me know. I realise its not the most interesting robot in the world and any of us would consider it pretty easy but I am trying to make it for <$95 and so anyone can do it.
So that makes what I can do a bit limited. _________________ Steven Martin
