Nationals 2012 Event Report
While the event itself was spectacular, Scarlet didn't go so well. A lot of small teething issues seemed to creep back into the robot that I had previously gone through 18 months ago, which was a little frustrating. Scarlet ended up going 1-3 before withdrawing from the competition.
Round 1 - Scarlet VS Low Blow
This one was the only win Scarlet enjoyed at nationals while facing off against Low Blow. A couple of hits to the armor on Low Blow resulted in a rather large gaping hole and Low Blow stopped shortly after. Win #1
Round 2 - Scarlet VS Stig
I look forward to fights with Stig and most of this fight is a blurr in my memory, but there was some spectacular hits before Scarlet ended up hitting the arena wall so hard during a ricochet off Stig that it bent the titanium disc and killed the battery pack. Loss #1
Round 3 - Scarlet VS Small Hadron Collider
It's been a long time since Scarlet fought SHC, the last time Scarlet ended up prematurely retiring SHC. This match was similar to the previous one, lots of big hits, sparks and bouncing around the arena. Eventually Scarlet hit the wall again, bending another disc which gouged into the new chassis. The ground wire also tore off the RX board which resulted in Scarlet going radio silent. Loss #2
Round 4 - Scarlet VS Low Blow
After repairing Scarlet from the previous match, I found that the weapon would no longer work. Testing in the pits showed that the ESC was working fine, but wasn't getting a signal, but the RX was also working fine as the rest of the robot was responding as it should. So Scarlet entered the arena without a weapon and struggled to push Low Blow around, before my awesome driving skills resulted in me driving down the pit.... Loss #3
I then spent an hour in the pits stripping Scarlet down trying to work out what was stopping the weapon from working, I eventually settled on the theory that the RX has lost the throttle channel some how. Switching to a new RX would take an hour or two once I dismantle a stock AR6110B, do my modifications, test and then put it all back into the robot, which would have had me finishing the robot around arena pack up time, so I forfeit my next battles.
Not too sure where to go with Scarlet from here, I have a few ideas to make it a bit more serviceable but over all the new 'All Steel' arena is extremely tough on the high powered spinners like Scarlet, bending both discs was rather shocking considering the amount of punishment Scarlet has dealt out and received in the past. I also found this version of Scarlet didn't drive as well as the previous version, so I might have to look into the whole weight distribution thing again between the current and last version.
Will have a few months off from bots now and come back with a fresh mind set and see what I can come up with _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/
