The Mortis boys also included wages in their costings, didn't they?

Doesn't matter how much Mortis cost, I still believe Razer and Warhead would go for way more money if they were sold on Ebay. Putting money into something doesn't always make it worth much, look at ricers with there all boom and no go cars. *Just back from Auto Salon, Brisbane on the weekend *
Insuring a robot would be as hard as getting an insurance company to cover running events for little 12kg bots. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

really cant see how i could rack up 500 on parts for a bot not including an ibc and a radio ,parts for bots are cheap ... its all a matter of how you approach ,your building ... if you want to build a ferrari only to crash on the 1st lap then fine ....
in my opinion take a look at arguably what i consider to be the best bot in australia ELBRAVO just ask jeff what his budget is ,a second place in the tag team event and just missing the final of the annihilator and all that with servo switching ,coke bottles, and what ever bits and pieces he can get his hands on ,that is the future of combat robots in australia ...time to get back to reality folks...
TV .SPONSORSHIP, BLAH BLAH BLAH ...how many uk rw winners are now millionairs from building robots ....maybe 1 or 2 i dont know but if you need to build to increase you ego and become famous then that is your choice but for the massive majority get your hands out of your pockets and stop looking to BUY the victories and spend time fine tuning your current robots and add ideas not dollars to your robots _________________ Photos - http://community.webshots.com/album/154092733uokpXC

I believe the insurance for the robots is only to cover them between the events, not at the comps.
And I only spend all my money on robots because I'm addicted! _________________ Get Some!!!

It is a good thing that we all have differing views on how to build a robot. It would be boring if they were all exactly the same.
I added the cost of my speed controllers into the price of Marauder. The totall is $300 so far without them. The next Marauder will be about $700 without the speedos or the radio.
It is worth it to me. It may be up in the air as to whether it is worth it to anyone else.

They included Arthur's, as it was an academic project and he was an employee of the university AFAIK.
The parts weren't cheap either though, the Infranor drive motors are worth £1000's, etc, and that's before you get to the "does that stuff really exist?" armour.
You should see the stuff they're working on now...

hmmm the never ending struggle with money, it is one of the only reasons my bots are not running spinners and what not.
however, I believe that with each bot (and probably each $100 or so spent with every bot) that I am improving.
that being said it doesnt mean I will ever really be able to compete on an internation level - I do it for fun and thats what i want to keep it at.
my 2 cents from chris _________________ Mr "squirt"

None of it's on the web, that I've seen anyway.
Arthur's invents for a living, and doesn't talk about what he's inventing much. He's been building Maelstrom (the follow up to Mortis) for some time now, I think he's hoping to take it to BBots this year. I've seen it a couple of times in it's development, and it amazes me the more I look at it.
Rob's doing his PhD. He's currently building a humanoid robot, and when I say humanoid, I mean it, it's a copy of the bone and muscle structure of a human.

Yeah, those two are certainly smart cookies thats for sure. I cant wait to see the humanoid and maelstorm. knowing their work it will be amazing and will probably open up new ideas and possibilities in this crazy sport. I saw rob knights walker a while bakc and that looked very neatly made and performed well.
Hope it goes well for them. _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics
