Robot Clubroom/Builders Den

over the past few weeks I have been looking to build a bigger shed.
After some consideration I came up with the idea of leasing a factory and using is as a sort of club room for robot builders.
here's the plan.

We lease a factory somewhere.
The factory will have the arena set up and welder grinder ect
A small monthly fee will allow access to the "robot club house" contributing to the rent.
Those paying the agreed fee may store robots, tools, motorbikes or porn.

The idea is to have a big space to make noise, share tools and ideas, share in the rent and in turn have an indoor robot testing ground and place to hold events.

A factory around 100sq mts would be good. this would be about $150 p/w
split between 10 people, $15 p/w. 15 people, $10 p/w. ect

your thoughts.

Sounds good but i think it might be hard to find enough people that can spare even $10 a week now days.

The other thing is i don't mind lending tools on an event day but i would not leave them somewhere for people to use when im not around not after past bad experiences and the fact i have spend a lot of money on them to get up a good workshop they mean alot to me i would rather keep them safe at home but thats just me.

I guess if we could get a collection of donated club tools that would be good so peoples tools cant get mixed up and what not and possible create a problem.

Dont know would have to trial it i guess lol.

Another thing that might be an issue is i think there is a land tax meaning if you dont do buisiness out the door you have to pay a tax of like $1500 a month or something as my boss is having this issue at the moment.

Fair enough on not wanting to lend out your tools. I was more thinking drill press, bench grinder ect, big stuff.
Most of the time, I would imagine, the builders would rock up with toolbox in hand.

I have mentioned the idea to some friends outside of Robowars and some have put up their hand for a share in this as a place to fix that lawn mower, or store an engine hoist used once a year.
Recon it will be easy to get over 20 people here, if we look outside the Robot fraternity, bringing the rent down to $8 or $9 p/w, or less.

that looks great, a little more involved than I had invisioned.
I was thinking of somthing more like just a place to spread out. maybe even a couple of foldaway beds for interstaters.

@ Tim.
At this stage. I have been looking at anything east of melbourne.

That Techshop looks amazing! Would love if there was something similar locally for myself.

Sounds like a good plan having a builder's den. I may be halfway around the world but something such as this would have been and would probably still be a great help for me in building robots and other engineering...err...'masterpieces' Laughing

Good luck, hope it all works and comes together
