Hah I wouldn't say eerily, parting tools are hard to use at the best of times, the cheap crap ones you're lucky to get one or two uses out of em... Laughing
Show us the lightsaber! Laughing

Want a good parting tool for cheap?
Make up a jig to mount your grinder in the tool post. Use a thin cutting disc and you'll part of bits with less waste then a proper part off tool Cool

Here we go, the photo makes it obvious that the finish isnt that great, but i did break the tool that was needed to get into some of the grooves to do it before i finished roughing it out Razz

I beleive this was originally a steel shaft of the kind you buy from bunnings to go with red wheels and the like when used for non-robot applications like wheels for a cart of some kind Razz

Beetleweights

Ok so, a new Beetle.

This one i slapped together in about 2.5 hours - which is a lot better than my usual 2.5 weeks!

I mainly did this one because, while I have ambitious plans in the Beetle department (my fave class), it occured to me that I will not have enough time to get it done in time for the next event. So, the prudent course of action would be to slap together something terrible rather than present with no finished bot. Now this is done I can see if i can get the 'proper' one done or not.

Anyway, i named this robot for what it is about to be turned into:

Mulch

Robot : Mulch
Team : Violent Engineering
Builder : Jaemus
Driver : Jaemus
Class : Beetleweight 1360g
Chassis/Armour : 4mm MDF baseplate, 19mm pine side and rear 'armour', 1.5mm steel top plate / wedge surface
Weapon : Wedge - ground clearance < 1mm
Drive : 2x VirtualVillage 1000rpm Gearmotors, HobbyKing 'LiteFlite' style wheels, custom tread profile on custom hubs
Controller : 2.4ghz HK-T6A, 2x BaneBots 3-9A ESC's
Batteries : LiPoly - Turnigy 1000mAh 4S 14.4v

I wedged that rug good!

Is the 'proper' beetle another Carbine by any chance? I get the impression that the next event will be low on spinners.

Shed lighting upgrade (from a desk lamp)

The power of 480 LEDs - according to specs this would be 3.2A, 266W @ 12V

Shown here on 11.1V - i only measured 2.2A but i dont trust my clamp meter

I think i can still fit a few more strips in Smile

Its sortof the equivalent of a couple of fluoros in terms of output so far

Pitch black outside in these shots
