Battleshed 09 - the Bloodshed

Battleshed 09

Its time to announce the NSW interstate event for this year. The date is October 10th & 11th at the Marayong arena. This year, the NSWRFC will be going all-out to improve the experience, with better facilities etc.

I would like to hear from anyone about what they would most like to see at the event: arena changes, prizes, food, whatever you think would make it more fun to attend. This event is just for builders - no public audience, no timetable to meet, just maximum robotic mayhem!

It looks like we will have a new high-traction floor soon; MDF with a tough oil based paint.

Registered bots:

Cobra, team Demon, NSW

Evil Twin, Team Overkill, NSW

Catastrophe, Team Dyrodium, NSW

Vendetta, Daniel, QLD

Bender, Team Rotwang, VIC
Bane, Team Rotwang, VIC

Puncturer, Andrew W, VIC

Rapture, NSW

Misfortune, Barton Robotics, NSW

Slave, Jaemus,NSW

Plan-G, Planners, NSW

EDIT: google says 10 1/2 hrs, is that about right?

We found in-bot cameras to be a bit delicate for spinners. What I want to try is remote controlled cameras in the arena - no reflections and usually impossible angles like floor level and overhead. We could show that live or combine a few guys to edit a DVD. Other events have promised a DVD in the past and my idea to actually deliver is to start months in advance with a template so we can just drop matches into pre-set format quickly - I will be talking to a friend in the DVD sales business about that.

glen did one once, but i think with everybody useing 2.4Ghz radios now it might be a bad idea to use his craptacular one again ;-> Also it was pretty hard to see anything

right in the middle of my exam period and i have 3 exams so the chances of me making it are bugger all.
Have fun anyway guys.

It would be cool to have the live video like we did day 2 of battleshed last year. That is good when you are pushed to get your bot fixed you can still see at least some of the fight.

QQ, are we happy with the arena the way it is for battleshed? Does it need some tlc before we unleash 2 days of fury on it? EDIT: oh, apart from the new floor, might well make a day of it...

I just booked two weeks of holidays before the event for nothing but bot building & event preparation; I will be able to help out with arena upgrades between 21/09 and 04/10.

He He, concentrate on option 3, it always takes longer than you think!

Local guys: I have around 6 brand new tubes for the fluro arena lights, do we want to get any new fittings?

Well that crept up quick.

No need to be concerned about a Rotwang Robotics VD, its barely started.

Rob Matt and I are still hoping to make the pilgrimage.

Starting to look like we wont have anything new, Bender, Pyro and either Reboot or Minimower.
