Ideas Festival March 27 - 29 2009
It is confirmed! Ideas Festival will be going ahead March 27 - 29 2009.
Same venue as last time: The Suncorp Piazza at Southbank Parklands in Brisbane, Queensland.
The competition will be a full round robin competition with finals held on the last day. If anyone is not able to attend Friday they are still welcome to compete Saturday and Sunday but may not be able to have as many fights and therefor may not be able to accumulate as many points and have trouble getting through to the finals.
Schedule as follows:
Thursday 26/03/2009: We will be setting up the venue including the arena. Any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated. Starting time 3pm. Any robots who want to have an early safety inspection to avoid hassles on Friday are welcome if things are not too busy. The arena will not be available for testing on Tursday.
Friday 27/03/2009: First day of competition. Beginning and 9am all robots will have safety inspections finished in the morning before they can compete. The Arena will be available for testing at any time during the day when it is not being used for competition. The round robin competition will start at 11am and finish 5pm.
Saturday 28/03/2009: Second day of round robin competition starting 10am and finishing 5pm. Any robots that did not attend on Friday will have their safeties completed before they can compete.
Sunday 29/03/2009: Last day of competition starting 10am and finishing 2pm. The round robin will continue as before until 11am followed by the finals of the top scoring 8 robots in single elimination format. After the competition the arena will be packed up to vacate the venue by the end of the day.
We will be using the RFL rules (
http://botleague.net/rules.asp
). We will be allowing flamethrowers at the event and builders will need to note the rules on allowed fuels and volumes. Any questions on the rules are to be asked before arriving at the event as the rules will not be discused on the day. If you don't follow the rules you wont be allowed to compete. _________________ Get Some!!!

I have updated the first post (keep an eye on this).
The date and venue is confirmed!
The Ideas Festival people want to come to one of our QRSC meetings to have a look and talk about what we do so need to get the date for the next meeting sorted.
They are also thinking of running workshops for school kids so need to think about that. _________________ Get Some!!!

The event is now listed on the Builder Database but regestration hasn't opened yet. I told it to open on 08/08/08, but I forgot that the yanks are living in the past so we'd need to wait a few hours. Not that it matters since the regestration will be open for 7 months so waiting a day won't hurt.
This regestration is linked into the some handy event managment programs so if you don't sign up there you won't get to play.
I'm trying to get the yanks and poms attention so it shall be interesting to wait and see who signs up.
I am giving consideration to coming over - it would be a lot of fun and I'm sure that Scissorhands would love a chance at a rematch with Mitch. Got to look at the $$ of course, and see about the time off from work. Either way, I hope you guys have one outstanding event!

Hmm, another go at Mitch before the next Robogames? Awesome! I am sure that Mitch ha been upgraded at least as much as Scissorhands, so there will be some epic battles.
On another note, Would there be time for a 'no-spinner' lightweight competition? There is a fair chance us Sydney guys will have at least a few ready by then.
